E-mail: [email protected] Abstract This study describes the fauna of the marine enchytraeid genus Grania at two locations on the Australian Great Barrier Reef: Lizard and Heron Islands. Collections were made from 1979 to 2006, yielding four new species: Grania breviductus sp. n., Grania regina sp. n., Grania homochaeta sp. n. and Grania colorata sp. n.. A re-description of Grania trichaeta Jamieson, 1977 based on new material is also included, along with notes and amendments on G. hyperoadenia Coates, 1990 and G. integra Coates & Stacey, 1997, the two latter being recorded for the first time from eastern Australia. COI barcode sequences were obtained from G. trichaeta and G. colorata and deposited with information on voucher specimens in the Barcode of Life database and GenBank; the mean intraspecific variation is 1.66 % in both species, while the mean interspecific divergence is 25.54 %. There seem to be two phylogeographic elements represented in the Great Barrier Grania fauna; one tropical with phylogenetic affinities to species found in New Caledonia and Hong Kong, and one southern (manifested at the more southerly located Heron Island) with affinities to species found in Southern Australia, Tasmania and Antarctica. -

The paper gives the occurrence of two species of the genus Lucifer in the Ureat Barrier Reef area during the year July 1928 July 1929. L. penicillifer Hansen is by far the commoner species : it occurred with fair regularity throughout the year, the month of September excepted. Spermatophores were present, in the distal portion of one vas deferens only, practically throughout the year, suggesting that there is ,110 fixed breeding period. L. typus H. M.-Edw. occurred in small numbers between the end of July and the- end of November 192S but the two species were seldom present at the same time. INTRODUCTION THK Sergestidae of the Ureat Barrier Reef Expedition all belong- to the subfamily Luciferinae which, comprises the single aberrant genus Lucifer V. Thompson (---- Leucifer H. Milne-Edwards). This genus was revised by Hansen (1919, pp. 48-6o, pis. iv and v) who reduced the number of known species to three, adding that " all the remaining names in the literature must be cancelled for ever either as synonyms or as quite unrecognizable " (p. 50). in addition, he described three new species from the " Siboga material. Even though the majority of chondrichthyans live in the sea, their distribution still covers a wide range of habitats, including freshwater riverine & lake systems, inshore estuaries & lagoons, and coastal waters out to the open sea (Cailliet et. al, 2005). Most species have a relatively restricted geographic distribution, occurring mainly along continental shelves and slopes and around islands and continents, with some smaller species being endemic to isolated regions or confined to narrow depth ranges. However, other species are distributed more broadly, having biogeographic ranges spanning ocean basins. Only a relatively small number of species are known to be genuinely wide ranging. The best studied of these are the large pelagic species, which make extensive migrations across ocean basins. Most of the chondrichthyans are predators; however, some are also scavengers and some of the largest (whale, basking and megamouth sharks and manta rays) filter feed on plankton and small fish. However, none of these fishes are herbivorous. The predatory sharks are at, or near, the top of marine food chains (Cailliet et. al, 2005). Therefore, most shark populations are relatively small compared to those of most teleost fishes. Most shark species are opportunistic and consume a variety of food from small benthic animals such as polychaetes, molluscs, fishes and crustaceans to prey such as marine mammals including seals and cetaceans (Fowler et. -

MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: Mercury Lamp Drum-Top Crusher Study Document Number: EPA530-R-06-002 FROM: Matt Hale, Director Office of Solid Waste TO: State and Regional RCRA Waste Management Directors Users and Potential Users of Drum-Top Crusher Devices Lamp Recyclers and Manufacturers As part of ongoing efforts to encourage safe management of mercury-containing equipment and fluorescent lamps, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is releasing a Mercury Lamp Drum-Top Crusher Study on the performance of mercury lamp drum-top crusher (DTC) devices. DTC devices fit on the top of a 55 gallon drum and crush fluorescent lamps into the drum below. DTC devices are designed to reduce the volume of waste lamps, while controlling the release of mercury vapors from crushed lamps. This volume reduction can facilitate storage and handling, decrease the possibility of subsequent breakage and release, and reduce shipping costs associated with fluorescent lamp recycling. We conducted the Mercury Lamp Drum-Top Crusher Study in order to gain more information about the performance of DTC devices. The objective of the study was to evaluate how well four DTC devices contained mercury releases from crushed lamps, focusing on worker exposure to airborne mercury. The study provides current information on the performance of DTC devices. The report presents our findings, which we believe will be helpful to states, users of fluorescent lamps, and lamp recyclers in making more informed management decisions when recycling fluorescent lamps. A low pressure diving air compressor usually has a delivery pressure of up to 30 bar, which is regulated to suit the depth of the dive. A high pressure diving compressor has a delivery pressure which is usually over 150 bar, and is commonly between 200 and 300 bar. The pressure is limited by an overpressure valve which may be adjustable. Oil-lubricated compressors must only use lubricants specified by the compressor's manufacturer. Special filters are used to clean the air of any residual oil and water(see "Air purity").
