Prepared by the Focal Point Volunteer Staff May 2019-2020 City of Torrance Community Services Department 3031 Torrance Boulevard Torrance, CA 90503 Bartlett Senior Center RUSS NOLTE ANNEX 1339 Post Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501 (310) 320-1300 FOCAL POINT The Torrance Focal Point on Aging is one of 48 Focal Points designated by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging. The Focal Point is an information and referral service where older adults can learn about community resources available to meet their emotional, physical and social needs. The Focal Point program is housed in the Russ Nolte Annex, adjacent to the Bartlett Senior Center in downtown Torrance. The program provides information to seniors, their families, and caregivers about such services as: transportation, housing, meals, health care, health insurance, social and legal services, etc. Throughout the year, a great deal of effort goes into compiling and updating this directory. We’d like to acknowledge and thank all our Focal Point volunteers involved in producing this annual service directory. Volunteers are available at the Focal Point office, located at 1339 Post Avenue in Torrance. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. For further information, please call 310-320-1300. It is a guide to comprehensive programs and services that may be of help to seniors and those who assist seniors. Inclusion does not imply endorsement, and failure to list a resource implies no criticism. The directory contains information on community resources that are available for everything from minimal assistance to total care. Listings are as accurate as possible, and periodic updates will be available. To inform us of corrections, deletions, or additional information, please call the Focal Point office at 310-320-1300. In general, many of the agencies and resources listed are located in Torrance. However, a number of resources in communities surrounding the South Bay are also included. In some instances, the nearest location for a resource might be in Los Angeles, Sacramento or Washington, DC. All times listed are Pacific time, unless otherwise noted. Helen Dennis, a Torrance resident and specialist in aging, employment, and the new retirement, as well as the author of the Daily Breeze “Seniors” column, has compiled a suggested reading list for retirees and those about to retire. This section can be found under the title "Successful Aging Reading List" at the end of the directory, prior to the Index. HOW TO USE THIS DIRECTORY The directory is cross-referenced in two ways: The TABLE OF CONTENTS page is located at the front of the directory and shows resources listed by category, in alphabetical order. Use this page to locate the type of assistance you need. It will refer you to a page number where you will find a number of PROVIDERS that fall into that specific category. Use this section if you know the type of assistance you are seeking. The INDEX, located at the back of the directory, contains a complete listing of all the providers in the directory in alphabetical order. Because some providers fall into more than one category, the INDEX will list all the page numbers where a specific provider has been listed. Use this section if you know the name of the provider for which you are searching.
