There is a some cult films, made by Tarantino: Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill dilogy, Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained. Greatest budget/gross ratio belong to Pulp Fiction, 8,5 million budget to 213 million gross. And the biggest gross is 425 million for Django Unchained with 100 million budget. However Tarantino is quietly pacific person and he says, that violence must stay in films, not in real life. There is a some interest facts about Q.J. Tarantino: - He hasn‘t higher education, furthermore he didn‘t graduated from high school. -He paid for his friend – Robert Rodriguez 1 dollar for ‖Kill Bill‖ soundtrack, Robert repaid with same price for small episode in ―Sin City‖ -First Russian film, that Tarantino saw - was ―Moscow does not believe in tears‖, and he liked it. -Quentin doesn‘t like the hidden advertising in films, all his characters smokes a Red Apple cigarettes - his own brand of cigarettes, which he invented especially for this. 33 .

  • Django Unchained
DJANGO UNCHAINED DANNY D FORD What we are about to witness is Quentin Tarantino’s foray into the world of ‘shoot-em-up’ spaghetti westerns. Django Unchained is a blitz of outrageous intensity. Powerful, colourful, and slick, we find ourselves transported to Texas 1858, amidst the slave trade and a stew of murderous vehemence. Two men are brought together to form an unlikely partnership as they help one another along the trail towards payday and vengeance. Nowadays, the outcry that precedes the release of one of Tarantino’s films does little more than add to the caricatured circus of controversy that has become all too common across media outlets looking for cheap headlines. “VIOLENCE!” They scream – “What about the kids?”. Good question, what about the kids? As did many my age, I first came across Tarantino’s films in the mid nineties. As a twelve year old, I was blown away by his work. I was completely in awe of his storytelling. The way Tarantino presented his characters, the way those characters spoke and above all, the way he was able to exquisitely combine images with music. I had never seen anything so captivating in all my life. I discovered my love for film through those experiences and to this day Tarantino’s early efforts still stand out in my memory. At that point, the former Video Archives rental store employee had already sent shockwaves through Hollywood, with the screenplay for True Romance , the script to Natural Born Killers , his classy first feature Reservoir Dogs and his game changing, infamously non-linear, 1994 release Pulp Fiction .

The Shaw-Tarantino Connection: Rolling Thunder Pictures and the Exploitation Aesthetics of Cool By Kenneth Chan Introduction The opening credit sequence of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 1 features the Shaw Brothers logo—the letters “SB” encased within a crest symbol not unlike the one used by Warner Bros.—emblazoned across a multicolored frosted-glass backdrop, accompanied by the words “Shaw Scope” and a cheesy trumpet fanfare. For many mainstream American moviegoers, this is probably their first encounter with this iconic symbol from Hong Kong’s cinematic history. But for Hong Kong and diasporic Chinese audiences (in countries such as Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore; and in Chinatowns across North America and Europe), this highly familiar branding sequence heralds the movie pleasures ethnic Chinese audiences have come to expect and love from the Shaw films produced during the late-1950s to the mid-1980s in Hong Kong.

  • 1980S Retro Film Culture and the Masculinity of Cult
IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO YOU: 1980s RETRO FILM CULTURE AND THE MASCULINITY OF CULT Ryan Collins Thesis Prepared for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS August 2017 APPROVED: Harry Benshoff, Committee Chair Kevin Heffernan, Committee Member James Martin, Committee Member Eugene Martin, Chair of the Department of Media Arts David Holdeman, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Victor Prybutok, Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School Collins, Ryan. It's All Coming Back to You: 1980s Retro Film Culture and the Masculinity of Cult. Master of Arts (Media Industry and Critical Studies), August 2017, 130 pp., bibliography, 214 titles. The 1980s is a formative decade in American history. America sought to reestablish itself as a global power and to reassert the dominant ideology of white, patriarchal capitalism. Likewise, media producers in the 1980s sought to reassert the dominance of the white, male, muscled body in filmic representations. The identity politics of the 1980s and the depictions of the white, muscled body once prominent in the 1980s have been the site of conservative nostalgia for a young, male-dominated, cult audience that is a subset of a larger cultural trend known as retro film culture. This thesis provides historical context behind the populist 1980s B- action films from Cannon Group, Inc that celebrate violent masculinity in filmic representations with white, male action heroes. Equally important is the revival of VHS collecting and how this 1980s-inspired subculture reinforces white, patriarchal capitalism through the cult films they valorize and their capitalistic trading practices despite their claims of oppositionality against mainstream taste and Hollywood films.

  • Undergraduate Dissertation Trabajo Fin De Grado
Undergraduate Dissertation Trabajo Fin de Grado INGLORIOUS BASTERDS AND THE GLORIOUS AESTHETICIZATION OF GORE Author Silvia Barbero Hernández Supervisor Juan A. Tarancón de Francisco FACULTY OF ARTS 2020 Abstract This dissertation revolves around the enjoyment of violence in films, on how they are perceived and sometimes glorified. With Inglorious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino, 2009) I exemplify the fact that audiences feel attraction to violent movies because of their appealing aesthetics, to the point where I argue that we are being “manipulated” into liking fictional violence. I also raise and answer questions such as: “Why are we drawn to violence?”, “through which pieces of media are we exposed the most to violence?”, “is there something wrong because we do so?”, “are we hypocrites if we are against real violence but we enjoy fictional violence?” and “how does it affect society?” In the end, I conclude that there is nothing wrong with enjoying fictional violence, but that we are indeed being manipulated into liking it by many factors. Furthermore, we should think critically and separate fictional violence from real violence.

Michael Riva Interpreti: Jamie Foxx (Django), Christoph Waltz (Dott. King Schultz), Leonardo DiCaprio (Calvin Candie), Kerry Washington (Broomhilda), Samuel L. Jackson (Stephen), Walton Goggins (Billy Crash), Dennis Christopher (Leonide Moguy) Produzione: Columbia Pictures, The Weinstein Company Distribuzione: Warner Bros.
