    Orangutan Foundation International Journey into the rainforest with Dr. Biruté Galdikas In 1971, Biruté Mary Galdikas arrived in one of the world’s last wild places, Tanjung Puting Reserve in Borneo, Indonesia. There were no telephones, roads, electricity, televisions, or regular mail service. The reserve was being logged and the laws protecting wildlife were not enforced. The rhinoceros had already been hunted into extinction in the area. At this time, very little was known about orangutans in the wild. Despite these conditions and a number of people that said it could not be done, Dr. Galdikas developed the first comprehensive study of the wild orangutan. Through this work, Dr. Galidkas created Camp Leakey, the site of the longest continuous study on any primate. She has also protected one of last havens for orangutans in Borneo despite the tremendous pressures from illegal logging, illegal mining, and palm oil company interests. During this trip, you will visit the sites of Dr. Galdikas’ work including her famous research site at Camp Leakey and the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine Facility, which houses over 330 orangutan orphans. Dr. Galdikas will share with you her expertise in the areas of primatology, anthropology, and conservation. Executive Summary PT Investa Karya Bhakti (herein after refer to PT IKB) was established by Act No. 07 dated on 19-09-2012, issued by Kokoh Henry, SH., and legalized by Ministry of Law Human Right No. AHU-52.397.AH.01.01. year 2012 dated on 02-10-2012. PT IKB, is which is located in the Pangkalan Banteng and Kumai Subdistrict, Kotawaringin Barat Regency – Central Kalimantan Province, is one of the palm oil plantation companies that has adopted the sustainable palm oil practices based on the RSPO New Planting Procedures which came in to force beginning 1 January 2010. As part of a sustainable palm oil management, PT IKB has conducted the Social Environment Impact Assessment (SEIA/ AMDAL), High Conservation Value (HCV) identification, Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Carbon Stock Assessment and Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA). The assessment were conducted from November 2015 and reported in March 2016 by Gagas Dinamiga Aksenta (Aksenta); the key consultants conducting these assessments have been approved by HCVRN Assessor Licensing Scheme. The area license of IKB was issued by Head of Kotawaringin Barat Regent in 2015 (SK No. 525/014/Ek dated 21 April 2015), covering area of 5,700 ha. The results of the assessment shown that there is no primary forest in the concession of PT IKB. Based on The Report of HCV Identification PT IKB 2016 by Aksenta, The vegetation's cover dominated by the palm oil. As for potential HCV areas, 3 (three) types of HCV were identified by Aksenta; these are HCV 1 (1.2, 1.3 and 1.4), HCV 3 and HCV 4 (4.1 and 4.2).

The Bupati issued the permit（Izin Lokasi/No525/68/Ⅻ/2012 Year2012）on 18 December 2012 for the 9276.5ha area in total in Desa Sekonyer, Desa Kumai Seberang, and Desa Teluk Pulai region. According to the EIA regulation 2012(Peraturan Menteri Negara Lingkungan hidup), the Sonokeling company hired by ASMR made some research from April to May in 2013 for the EIA, then on 28 October 2013 ASMR gained the Envionmental Permit (Izin Lingkungan) with the consent of the Bupati. 1-1-2 The company, however, began the clearing operation in the forest in Kumai Seberang area on 8 June 2013;i.e, more than 4 months earlier than the Envionmental Permit(Izin Lingkungan), moreover, the company obtained the Plantation Business Permit(IUP) on 26 November 2013. Meanwhile the Plantation Business Permit(IUP) regulation(Point8 ketentuan) prohibits any operarions over the lands before the IUP permit. Therefore the clearing operation in Kumai Seberang area mentioned above was clearly against the regulation, then it goes without saying that the operations before the HGU is more seriously illegal.

They have played a major role in indigenous shipping, and since the second half of the nineteenth century their importance in this field has been second only to that of the Bugis and Makassarese. With their strong maritime orientation and outward economy, the coastal Madurese contrast strongly with the agricultural orientation of their near neighbours, the Javanese and the Balinese. The first part of this thesis presents the Madurese in historical context vis-à-vis the Javanese and the maritime groups of Sulawesi. It then considers the various historical and cultural-ecological factors which predisposed the coastal Madurese toward seafaring as a livelihood, and which enabled them to eclipse their former rivals along the north coast of Java. The main seafaring centres of Madura during the twentieth century are identified, with these being in three distinct locations: the northwest coast, the southwest coast, and the eastern islands of Madura.

Posisi yang strategis tampaknya sangat berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan kebudayaan di daerah tersebut. KesempatanARKENAS untuk dapat berinteraksi dengan dunia luar menjadi sangat mungkin. Keberadaan situs arkeologi di pesisir menjadi sangat menarik untuk dikaji lebih lanjut. Tulisan ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui karakteristik situs tersebut. Metode penelitian bersifat deskriptif eksplanatif dengan penalaran induktif. Data arkeologi yang digunakan merupakan hasil survei arkeologi pada tahun 2014. Hasil survei menemukan adanya beberapa kelompok temuan yang berada di wilayah Desa Sebuai dan Desa Pendulangan, dengan keramik sebagai temuan terbanyak. Berdasarkan hasil analisis artefaktual dan lingkungan, sintesa dan interpretasi menunjukkan bahwa situs di pesisir tersebut, selain sebagai tempat hunian dari abad ke-13 - 14 hingga sekarang, juga memegang peranan penting dalam aktivitas perdagangan dengan daerah luar, serta mempunyai keterkaitan yang erat dengan situs arkeologi di daerah pedalaman. Kata kunci: Situs pesisir, Keramik, Sungai Arut, Kotawaringin Barat Abstract. The regency of West Kotawaringin, which is located in Central Kalimantan province, has coastal areas, precisely in the south, which is directly adjacent to the Java Sea. Its strategic position seems very influential on the development of culture in this area. The opportunity to interact with the outside world becomes very possible.
