With a mission to provide easy movement of people and goods from place to place, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for maintaining one of the largest transportation networks in the nation. Guided by ethical principles and accountability, ODOT works to improve safety, enhance travel and advance economic development. O The following summary outlines those projects which are currently under construction or programmed for the 2021 construction season in ODOT District 8. With an estimated funding commitment of more than $760 million in construction costs, District 8’s construction program will consist of approximately 95 new and ongoing preservation, maintenance and safety improvement projects to be sold and/or constructed through FY2021 and the first quarter of FY2022. Due to production and planning variables, however, not all projects may be sold as proposed, and projects are subject to funding availability. Any cost estimates, sale dates or schedules cited in this document are subject to change, and estimated costs are the construction cost estimates established by District 8’s Planning & Design staff prior to bid letting; these do not include any preliminary engineering or right of way acquisition costs as applicable to the project. Projects listed as Local-Let are those which are being administered by the Department of Transportation; additional information about these and other local projects can be obtained from the respective sponsoring agency. ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM 2021 CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS MAJOR INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS I-70 - PREBLE COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pavement repair, bridge rehabilitations and resurfacing of I-70 from the Indiana State line to the Montgomery County line. Construction will also include paving work in both the rest area and the weigh station. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Summer 2020 – Summer 2022 CONSTRUCTION COST: $28.2 million I-71 - HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Repaving of approximately 5.5 miles on I-71 and bridge deck replacement of Stewart Road bridge and rehab of other bridges from north of S.R. 562/Norwood Lateral to S.R. 126/Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway. Also includes widening to three continuous through lanes between the Norwood Lateral interchange and Red Bank Expressway, removing the northbound Ridge Road exit and adding a NB I-71 exit to Kennedy Avenue. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Spring 2018 – Summer 2021 CONSTRUCTION COST: $36 million I-75/MILL CREEK EXPRESSWAY – HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Widening I-75 to four lanes between Monmouth Street and Clifton Avenue, connecting the improvements from Hopple and Mitchell projects. Additional improvements to the connection of eastbound I-74 to I-75. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Fall 2018 – Fall 2022 CONSTRUCTION COST: $87 million I-675 – GREENE COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pavement repair and resurfacing on I-675, from the Montgomery County line to near North Fairfield Road. Project also includes bridge overlays, approach slabs and joint repairs on the mainline and overhead bridges. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Spring 2020 – Summer 2022 CONSTRUCTION COST: $26.1 million ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM 2021 CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS MAJOR INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS I-75/THRU THE VALLEY – HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Phase 8 of this multi-phase project on I-75 North and South between the Glendale Milford Road interchange and Kemper Road overpass. Project includes widening for a fourth lane on in both directions and auxiliary lanes from Sharon Road to Glendale Milford Road and from Sharon Road to I-275. Work includes improving the capacity at the Sharon Road interchange and the intersection of E. Sharon Road/Chester Road. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Summer 2021 – Spring 2025 CONSTRUCTION COST: $45.7 million I-74/MILL CREEK EXPRESSWAY – HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Phase 5B of the I-75/Mill Creek Expressway project, addressing work on I-74 as part of the I-74/75 interchange reconstruction. Construction will also improve the ramps from I-75 to I-74 West. Although this project will sell in the Spring of 2021, construction is not anticipated to begin until construction for Phase 5A of the MCE has been completed. OVERALL SCHEDULE: Spring 2022 – Summer 2025 CONSTRUCTION COST: $93 million ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM 2021 CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS OTHER NOTABLE PROJECTS INTERSECTION SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS BUTLER-73: A safety improvement project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of S.R. 73 and C.R. 24 (Jacksonburg Road), just west of Trenton. Construction is under way, and the project will be completed in the summer of 2021. Estimated cost: $3 million. BUTLER-127: A safety improvement project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 127 and S.R. 73, just west of the community of Seven Mile. Construction will kick off in the spring of 2021, and the project will be completed in 2022. Estimated cost: $2.7 million. CLERMONT-32: Construction of a signalized Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) on S.R. 32 at the Bauer Road intersection near Batavia. The project will include building signalized median crossovers to the east and west of Bauer Road and provide for left turn and through traffic movements by way of legal U-turn movements, thereby eliminating the at-grade crossing. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2021, and the project is scheduled for completion in late fall of 2021. Estimated cost: $6 million. GREENE-35: Construction of a signalized superstreet on U.S. 35 between Orchard Lane and Factory Road in Beavercreek. In addition to roadway and bridge improvements, the project will include building signalized intersections at both locations to provide for legal U-turn movements and eliminate the at-grade crossing intersections, similar to that of an RCUT. Construction is under way, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2022. Estimated cost: $14.9 million. ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM BUTLER COUNTY Carry-Over Projects BUT-75-5.35 PID: 100801 CONSTRUCTION COST: $2.37 million SCHEDULE: Summer 2020 – Summer 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A bridge rehabilitation and deck replacement project on the C.R. 20 (Tylersville Road) structure over I-75. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on C.R. 20 during Phase 1 construction; however, the route will be closed during Phase 2. I-75 traffic will be maintained throughout the project, with intermittent lane restrictions as needed. BUT-73-13.05 PID: 102059 CONSTRUCTION COST: $2.93 million SCHEDULE: Summer 2020 – Summer 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of S.R. 73 and C.R. 24 (Jacksonburg Road). MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained on S.R. 73; C.R. 24 will be subject to temporary closure during some phases of construction. BUT-747-1.01/2.01 PID: 110213 CONSTRUCTION COST: $375,000 SCHEDULE: Summer 2020 – Summer 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A signal rebuild and upgrade project at the intersection of S.R. 747 and C.R. 115 (Muhlhauser Road) and at the S.R. 747 and C.R. 116 (Port Union Road) intersection. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained on all affected routes. ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM BUTLER COUNTY Carry-Over Projects Districtwide-Various PID: 94224 CONSTRUCTION COST: $2.34 million SCHEDULE: Summer 2020 – Summer 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Districtwide bridge maintenance project on structures located on S.R. 126 in Butler County; S.R. 131, S.R. 132 and S.R. 32 in Clermont County; U.S. 35 in Greene County; I-75, I-275, U.S. 50, S.R. 126 and S.R. 562 in Hamilton County; and I-75 in Warren County. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained on all affected routes. ODOT DISTRICT 8 2021 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM BUTLER COUNTY New Projects BUT-75-5.52 PID: 100632 CONSTRUCTION COST: $1.09 million SCHEDULE: Spring – Fall 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A microsurfacing project between the Tylersville Road and S.R. 129 interchanges. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in either direction. BUT-75-0.00 PID: 102568 CONSTRUCTION COST: $8.04 million SCHEDULE: Spring – Fall 2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A pavement repair and resurfacing project between the Hamilton County line and the Tylersville Road interchange. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in either direction. BUT-127-16.56 PID: 110466 CONSTRUCTION COST: $2.69 million SCHEDULE: Summer 2021 – Spring 2022 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 127 and S.R. 73. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: Traffic will be maintained on U.S. 127 throughout construction; S.R. 73 will be subject to intermittent periods of closure.
