The College acts on behalf of the public to ensure that registered massage therapists (RMTs) in B.C. deliver safe, ethical and effective treatment. The CMTBC was established as a separate health regulatory college by the provincial government in 1994, under the Health Professions Act. The College is governed by a Board that includes both registered massage therapists and public representatives. Definition of Massage Therapy in British Columbia The scope of practice of RMTs in B.C. is defined by the Massage Therapists Regulation, which is made pursuant to the Health Professions Act of B.C. "massage therapy" means the health profession in which a person provides, for the purposes of developing, maintaining, rehabilitating or augmenting physical function, or relieving pain or promoting health, the services of (a) assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body, and (b) treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction, injury, pain and disorders of soft tissue and joints of the body by manipulation, mobilization and other manual methods. Reg. 58/2015, s. 1.] ©2018 CMTBC 3 CMTBC Entry to Practice Requirements Registration with CMTBC indicates an RMT meets entry to practice requirements to consistently provide safe, effective and ethical massage therapy. The Registration Examination assesses knowledge and abilities that are described in the entry to practice requirements. The following two documents outline entry to practice requirements: Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry-to-Practice (PCs-PIs, 2016), and Guidelines for Foundational Knowledge in Massage Therapy Educational Programs (GFK, 2018). The GFK sets out foundational knowledge required of new applicants for registration with CMTBC. It is a companion document to the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators, which refers to foundational knowledge requirements in its Preface and in its Appendix. A description of the Guidelines for Foundational Knowledge document Each section lists performance objectives. In some sections specific content guidelines are also included. The depth of knowledge required for each performance objective and content item must be sufficient to enable the entry-level massage therapist to demonstrate the practice competencies in the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators document. Entry-level massage therapists have a strong foundational knowledge base common amongst regulated health care professionals in Canada. Massage therapy applies principles of physical, health and social sciences as well as the humanities. Massage therapy education programs that are accredited to CMTBC’s historical standard demonstrate that their curriculum design effectively delivers the content specifications of these Guidelines and When incidentally picked up on imaging, they are often inconsequential and rarely a cause for concern. However, they may cause pain or discomfort due to trauma, altered stress, and over-activity. Nuclear scintigraphy may play a role in the diagnosis and localizing pain generators. 18F-Sodium Fluoride (NaF) is a PET imaging agent used in bone imaging. Although commonly used in imaging patients with cancer imaging malignancy, 18F-NaF may be useful in the evaluation of benign bone and joint conditions. In this article, we would like to present a spectrum of clinical cases and review the potential diagnostic utility of 18F-NaF in the assessment of symptomatic accessory ossicles in patients referred for staging cancers. ABSTRACT Sesamoid bones are a special group of small auxiliary bones that form in proximity to joints and contribute to their stability and function. Sesamoid bones display high degree of variability in size, location, penetrance and anatomical connection to the main skeleton across vertebrate species. Therefore, providing a comprehensive developmental model or classification system for sesamoid bones is challenging. Here, we examine the developmental mechanisms of three anatomically different sesamoid bones, namely patella, lateral fabella and digit sesamoids. Through a comprehensive comparative analysis at the cellular, molecular and mechanical levels, we demonstrate that all three types of sesamoid bones originated from Sox9+/Scx+ progenitors under the regulation of TGFβ and independent of mechanical stimuli from muscles.

    Lower Limb – Jessica Magid Blue Boxes for Lower Limb Lower Limb Injuries (556) o Knee, leg, and foot injuries are the most common lower limb injuries o Injuries to the hip make up <3% of lower limb injuries o In general, most injuries result from acute trauma during contact sports such as hockey and football and from overuse during endurance sports such as marathon races . Adolescents are most vulnerable to these injuries bc of the demands of sports on their slowly maturing musculoskeletal systems The cartilaginous models of the bones in the developing lower limb are transformed into bone by endochondrial ossification Bc this process is not completed until early adulthood, cartilaginous epiphysial plates still exist during the teenage years when physical activity often peaks and involvement in competitive sports is most common During growth spurts, bones actually grow faster than the attached muscle o The combined stress on the epiphysial plates resulting from physical activity and rapid growth may result in irritation and injury of the plates and developing bone (osteochondrosis) Injuries of the Hip Bone (Pelvic Injuries) (563) o Fractures of the hip bone are commonly referred to as pelvic fractures . The term hip fracture is commonly applied (unfortunately) to fractures of the femoral head, neck, or trochanters o Avulsion fractures of the hip bone may occur during sports that require sudden acceleration or deceleration forces Such as sprinting or kicking in football, hurdle jumping, basketball, and martial arts . A small part of bone with a piece of tendon or ligament attached is “avulsed” torn away . These fractures occur at apophyses (bony projections that lack secondary ossification centers .
