The earplugs should be free of debris, Helix tears, and other physical damage. Tip • Inspect the coiled cable and the cable connection to the earplug. Left Earplug Right Earplug • Lubricate the earplugs with water or Aegisound Ear Gel around the canal tip, being careful not to allow water or gel into the opening at the earplug tip. • Gently insert the tip of the earplug into the ear canal with the helix rotated forward. • Rotate the earplug backwards while pushing the earplug until the tip slides into the canal and the helix fits into the pocket at the top of the ear. Correct Earplug Insertion Correct Incorrect Insertion Insertion (Earplug (Earplug not locked locked in in helix) helix) Custom Earplug Familiarization • Wearing the custom earplugs for long periods of time may require an adjustment period of a week or more. • Begin by wearing earplugs for one hour at a time for the first several days. • Once acclimated to the earplugs, start wearing them for two or more hours until they can be worn for an entire shift. Do not risk exposure to noise without wearing hearing protection. USER MANUAL | 3 Typical Earplug Insertion The following indicates the most typical insertion technique. All ears are different, and techniques may need to vary from that shown. It will be helpful to practice by using a mirror until comfortable with installing the earplugs into the correct position. 1. Insert the tip into the ear canal with the helix rotated forward 2. While pressing the tip into the ear canal, rotate the helix back. Pulling on the outer ear in directions indicated (orange) may help the earplug to slide into position 3. Continue rotating back until the earplug helix can be inserted into the helix of the ear. The earplug to the right is not yet fully inserted. 4. Press on the earplug to be sure it is seated fully into the ear helix and the outer ear bowl. 4 | DANR THP & THPC EARPLUGS Waxguard Replacement Installed waxguards should be inspected before each use to verify that they are not blocked with wax or other debris. If a waxguard becomes obstructed, it should be removed and replaced. To remove the waxguard, insert the “OLD” side of the waxguard applicator into the used waxguard installed in the tip of the DANR earplug. When the waxguard applicator is removed from the earplug, the old waxguard will be captured by the applicator. A new waxguard will come preinstalled on the “NEW” end of the waxguard applicator. The new waxguard should be installed into the tip of the earplug using a similar motion used in the removal step. When the waxguard applicator is removed from the earplug, the new waxguard will remain installed in the earplug. Waxguards should only be changed in sheltered and clean areas. Waxguards should be disposed of properly. USER MANUAL | 5 Warning Do not turn the DANR system on unless the DANR earplugs are connected to the earcups and properly inserted into the ears to obtain proper initialization. Earplugs are custom made to fit your ear. They will not work for anyone else’s ear. Attempting to use custom earplugs that are not the wearer’s own, may result in damage to the ear canal. Always wear both the headset and the earplugs when in high noise environments. Never remove the earplugs while in a high noise environment. Failure to comply with general safety precautions violates the safety intent of this product and may result in damage to the product or bodily harm. Gentex Corportion claims no liability for damage or injury resulting from a failure to comply with the safety precautions outlined in this manual. Do not wrap the coiled cable around your neck. Doing so can cause strangulation. See supplemental component manuals for additional warnings and cautionary statements 6 | DANR THP & THPC EARPLUGS Caution Inserting or removing the earplugs too quickly may result in air pressure or suction against the eardrum causing temporary pain. Earplugs should be inserted or removed slowly with a twisting motion to prevent excess pressure buildup. Gently moving the earplug while opening the jaw fully may remove excess pressure buildup. Prolonged use of the earplugs (exceeding several hours) may result in temporary soreness near the ear canal. Use of Aegisound custom earplugs may reduce the risk of this irritation when compared to expandable foam type plugs. The use of earplugs may require a “break-in” period to accustom the ear canal to the presence of the earplug. In order to ensure maximum performance, the ear canal should be clean and free of excess ear wax and debris before inserting the earplugs. Long term usage of earplugs could result in the buildup of ear wax within the ear. In the event that ear wax or debris becomes impacted in your ear canal, seek medical consultation. When not in use, store the earplugs in a clean and dye free location, preferably in their case. Surfaces that have been dyed should be avoided to prevent the possibility of having the dye transfer onto the earplugs. The earplug surfaces should remain clean and free of other contaminates that could cause irritation of the ear canal such as sand and grit. Earplugs should be cleaned periodically with warm, soapy water to prevent buildup of dirt and bacteria. (NOTE: Do NOT submerge or allow water to enter the sound port in the tip of the canal.) Ear inflammation, otitis externa, or other infection could result from the use of dirty earplugs. In the event of pain or discharge from the ear canal, seek medical consultation. DANR custom earplugs are made from an immunologically inert material, and allergic reactions would be rare. In the event an allergic reaction is suspected, discontinue use and seek medical consultation. Do not hang or swing the headset by the earplugs or the cable. The cable may detach, damaging the devices.
