“I’ve competed against Leonard the last few years while I was at West Texas A&M and I think he’s a rising star in this profession,” said SFA head women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg. “He’s a great communicator with players, coaches and anyone we’ll work with. Jessica Grayson joined the Ladyjack coaching staff prior to the 2016-17 season. In the 2016-17 season, Grayson helped the ‘Jacks improve from an 18-12 season in 2015-16 to a 25-win season in her first campaign, including a trip to the Southland Conference finals and a resulting at-large bid to the WBI Tournament.

Prior to her arrival in Nacogdoches, Grayson served three seasons as an assistant coach and junior college recruiting coordinator at Illinois State University. She assisted in all recruiting phases while directing and organizing all junior college recruiting activities. Grayson worked primarily with the Redbird posts during her stint in Normal, Illinois, leading all post player training in practices and working with each big individually. Altogether, she has nine years of basketball coaching experience between the high school and collegiate ranks as an assistant and head coach.

During the 2012-13 season, Grayson spent a year away from the college scene as the head coach at Clarksville Academy – one of the top private schools in Tennessee.

Prior to Clarksville Academy, Grayson served as an assistant in Division I women’s basketball dating back to 2007. From 2010-12, she was the assistant coach at Austin Peay. At APSU, Grayson collaborated with the head coach to develop on-court strate- JESSICA GRAYSON gies and evaluated potential student-athletes. She also prepared scouting reports of Assistant Coach opponents, monitored and developed academic strategies for student-athletes and implemented individual workouts with perimeter players. 2nd Season (Austin Peay, ‘05) Grayson worked at Tennessee-Martin for three seasons as an assistant coach from 2007-10, where she created a recruiting strategy for the entire program, in addition to evaluating and scouting opponents and breaking down video. She also developed and monitored academic strategies for student-athletes and coordinated team travel.

Grayson broke into coaching as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons at Valdo- sta State beginning in 2005, while obtaining a Master’s Degree in health and physical education.

Grayson enjoyed a successful playing career between stops at Columbia State Com- munity College in Columbia, Tennessee and Austin Peay. At CSCC, she helped her team make the NJCAA National Tournament and rank as high as seventh nationally while being named an NJCAA All-American in 2000.

From there, Grayson ventured to Austin Peay in 2002. In both 2003 and 2004, she helped guide the Governors to an Ohio Valley Conference Title, an OVC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament Appearance. In her two year career, Gray- son and APSU boasted an overall record of 50-12.

She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in health and human performance from Austin Peay in 2005.

17 SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE TITLES 23 MEET THE COACHES

Beginning in July of 2017, Rebecca Alvidrez will be head coach Mark Kellogg’s assis- tant head coach for the Stephen F. Austin women’s basketball team.

Alvidrez joins the Ladyjacks following a highly successful three-year stint as an as- sistant coach at Colorado State.

During her three seasons on staff in Fort Collins, Alvidrez helped the Rams retain their reputation as a roundball power both in the Mountain West Conference and on the national scene. In that time, Colorado State rolled up a record of 79-19, captured three consecutive Mountain West Conference regular season titles, appeared in the NCAA Tournament and in the WNIT. On their home floor of Moby Arena, the Rams were nearly unbeatable through that three-year span as they posted a 46-4 mark.

Alvidrez assisted in prepping two-time Mountain West Player of the Year winner Ellen Nystrom (2015-16, 2016-17) while with the Rams, too.

Alvidrez arrived at Colorado State after a two-year affiliation with Omaha, where she was an assistant with the Mavericks. While there, she parlayed her one season of play- ing professional basketball in Sweden (Brahe Basketball, 2003-04) to an important REBECCA ALVIDREZ European recruiting conduit that eventually served both Omaha and Colorado State Assistant Coach well. Before her two-year stint in Omaha, Alvidrez helped elevate the profile of Alaska- 1st Season Anchorage to that of an NCAA Division II women’s basketball powerhouse through (Adams State, ‘06) her six seasons as the program’s associate head coach. From 2006-12, the Seawolves piled up an impressive 165-31 record and made six appearances in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball tournament during Alvidrez’s tenure as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator.

Alvidrez’s first college basketball coaching stop came at Otero Junior College from 2002-06 where she served as an assistant coach for the Rattlers’ men’s and women’s basketball programs under head coach Tim Moser.

Her collegiate playing career was split between a pair of schools and her first stop was Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo. As the team’s point guard, she led her squad to a pair of conference titles and captured junior college All-American honors in each of her seasons there.

Alvidrez’s play at Otero caught the eye of many NCAA Division I programs, including Montana State where she spent the final two seasons of her collegiate career. It was there that she collected a pair of All-Big Sky selections and was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year following the conclusion of the 2000-01 regular season.

Alvidrez received her bachelor’s degree from Adams State in 2006.

SFA Head Coach Mark Kellogg on Alvidrez: “Obviously we’re extremely thrilled to get someone of Rebecca’s caliber here. Not only is this a chance for her to gain more responsibility, she brings some great international recruiting ties, new ideas, new perspectives and a wealth of basketball knowledge to our program.”
