BASF and LG Uplus to establish safe and smart manufacturing environment

◼ BASF Korea’s Ulsan chemicals site introduces the safety management solution for smart factory and private LTE network from LG Uplus ◼ The explosion-proof receiver and the prompt emergency alarms bring an enhanced evacuation process

Seoul, Korea – May 30, 2021 – BASF Korea has recently formed a partnership with LG Uplus Corp, one of Korea’s largest companies, to establish a smart factory by adopting the Personal Positioning System at BASF Ulsan Chemical site. Firstly introduced in Korea, the system is equipped with a real-time location system and a private LTE network to enhance work safety and efficiency.

LG Uplus has connected the Ulsan chemicals site’s communications room to a telecommunication center with an LTE network supported by a high level of security and safety management solution across about 99,000m2 of Ulsan chemicals site. In addition, the installed LTE network is able to track the real-time location of all people entering the site, helping efficient and safe management of workers using the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags.

BASF Korea has made tremendous efforts to enhance safety at the workplace by adopting the explosion-proof safety device at the site. These industrial IoT and safety management solutions are expected to be introduced to BASF Korea’s other production sites shortly, including in Yeosu.
