The manuscript is based on an earlier version of the paper, “Constructing Gendered Victimization: Examining the Narratives of Men Experiencing Violence from Female Partners,” presented at the 2007 annual conference of National Communication Association, Chicago, IL. Male Victimization 2 Abstract This study explored, through in-depth interviews, the experiences of men sexually, psychologically, and/or physically victimized by female romantic partners. Men‟s narratives were analyzed to determine how masculinity and construction of victim-identities were related. Results show that abused men construed victimization as precipitated internally through self- blame and externally via societal-blame. Gendered masculinity was demonstrated for most men in the form of hegemonic-striving via complicit rationalizations; however, a minority of men constructed victimization in terms of protest masculinity. Male IPV victimization, while not as common as female victimization, is a serious problem with its own set of identity issues for male victims. Unfortunately, men‟s victimization from female partners receives comparatively limited scholarly attention (George, 2003). The goal of this study was to explore, through in-depth interviews, male IPV victims‟ communication of gender identities. -

STRENGTHENING THE STATE THROUGH DISSENT: GLOBAL PARTICIPATORY ACTS AND THE STATE By Patricia Camilien, université Quisqueya INTRODUCTION In Alvin Toffler‟s Future Shock (1970), three types of men coexist on the planet. Men of the present, living in the here and now as they are carried away by the waves and currents of the world; they are rather vulnerable to "future shock". Men of the past, who have remained in a past time long gone, are living in the twentieth century but are still in the twelfth. Men of the future, informed, insightful and perceptive, who are already surfing on the major trends of tomorrow. In today's world, these men of the future are part of a transnational and nomadic elite helped by the increasing liberalization of trade and the disappearance of borders – at the least for them. Transnational companies like oil brokerage firm Trafigura i – made globally (in) famous in 2010 by a journalist‟s tweet about a file hosted on WikiLeaks – exemplify this (future) global world. They enjoy the best of corporate law around the world and diversify their operations accordingly. This use of different national laws according to the benefits they offer is not limited to transnational corporations and their owners, but now extends to individuals who, while they are not billionaires in dollars, are so in reticular connections. Using global participatory acts (heretofore participactions), they seem to be the ones to help the people move from the present to the future. Moral and social entrepreneurs, they are the vanguard of the future changes in society they are trying to drive through networked actions as relayed by mass self- communication. -

Theories of embodied cognition have during the past two decades offered a radical shift in explanations of the human mind, from traditional computationalism which considers cognition in terms of internal symbolic representations and computational processes, to emphasizing the way cognition is shaped by the body and its sensorimotor interaction with the surrounding social and material world. This thesis develops a framework for the embodied nature of social interaction and cognition, which is based on an interdisciplinary approach that ranges historically in time and across different disciplines. It includes work in cognitive science, artificial intelligence, phenomenology, ethology, developmental psychology, neuroscience, social psychology, linguistics, communication, and gesture studies. The theoretical framework presents a thorough and integrated understanding that supports and explains the embodied nature of social interaction and cognition. It is argued that embodiment is the part and parcel of social interaction and cognition in the most general and specific ways, in which dynamically embodied actions themselves have meaning and agency. The framework is illustrated by empirical work that provides some detailed observational fieldwork on embodied actions captured in three different episodes of spontaneous social interaction in situ. -

Knowledge and cognition are thus dual aspects of human sociality. If social epistemology has the formation, acquisition, mediation, transmission and dissemination of knowledge in complex communities of knowers as its subject matter, then its third party character is essentially stigmer- gic. In its most generic formulation, stigmergy is the phenomenon of indirect communication mediated by modifications of the environment. Extending this notion one might conceive of social stigmergy as the extra-cranial analog of an artificial neural network providing epi- stemic structure. This paper recommends a stigmergic framework for social epistemology to account for the supposed tension between individual action, wants and beliefs and the social corpora. We also propose that the so-called ‘‘extended mind’’ thesis offers the requisite stigmergic cognitive analog to stigmergic knowledge. Zygmunt Ryznar Linguistic presentation of object structure and relations in OSL language Abstract OSL© is a markup descriptive language for the description of any object in terms of structure and behavior. In this paper we present a geometric approach, the kernel and subsets for IT system, business and human-being as a proof of universality. This language was invented as a tool for a free structured modeling and design. Keywords free structured modeling and design, OSL, object specification language, human descriptive language, factual markup, geometric view, object specification, GSO -geometrically structured objects. I. INTRODUCTION Generally, a free structured modeling is a collection of methods, techniques and tools for modeling the variable structure as an opposite to the widely used “well-structured” approach focused on top-down hierarchical decomposition. It is assumed that system boundaries are not finally defined, because the system is never to be completed and components are are ready to be modified at any time. OSL is dedicated to present the various structures of objects, their relations and dynamics (events, actions and processes). This language may be counted among markup languages. The fundamentals of markup languages were created in SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) [6] descended from GML (name comes from first letters of surnames of authors: Goldfarb, Mosher, Lorie, later renamed as Generalized Markup Language) developed at IBM [15]. Markups are usually focused on: - documents (tags: title, abstract, keywords, menu, footnote etc.) e.g. latex [14], - objects (e.g. OSL), - internet pages (tags used in html, xml – based on SGML [8] rules), - data (e.g. structured data markup: microdata, microformat, RFDa [13],YAML [12]). -

Suppose a line is broken into two pieces, one of length a and the other of length b (so the total length is a + b), and a and b are chosen in a very specific way: a and b are chosen so that the ratio of a + b to a and the ratio of a to b are equal. a b a + b a ! a b a+b a It turns out that if a and b satisfy this property so that a = b then the ratios are equal to the number Φ! It is called the golden ratio because among the ancient Greeks it was thought that this ratio is the most pleasing to the eye. a Try This! You can verify that if the two ratios are equal then b = Φ yourself with a bit of careful algebra. Let a = 1 and use the quadratic equation to find the value of b that makes 1 the two ratios equal. If you successfully worked out the value of b you should find b = Φ. To navigate autonomously, a mobile robot typically relies on internal maps, self-localization, and path plan- ning. Reliable navigation usually comes at the cost of expensive sensors and often requires significant computational overhead. Many insects in nature perform robust, close-to-optimal goal directed naviga- tion without having the luxury of sophisticated sensors, powerful computational resources, or even an internally stored map. They do so by exploiting a simple but powerful principle called stigmergy: they use their environment as an external memory to store, read and share information. In this thesis, we explore the use of stigmergy as an alternative route to realize autonomous navigation in practical robotic systems. In our approach, we realize a stigmergic medium using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology by embedding a grid of read-write RFID tags in the floor. -
