The table shows they are in last place in Group B but PFC CSKA Moskva can still qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds. To do that, they must win at FC Internazionale Milano – already assured of finishing first in the section – while hoping for a draw between LOSC Lille Métropole and AŞ. • A 2-0 defeat at home to Lille two weeks ago left the Moscow club up against it. Inter's run of three successive victories came to a halt with a 1-1 draw in Turkey the same night, although the point was still enough to secure progress – and first place. • In the reverse fixture on 27 September a late winner from substitute Mauro Zárate settled a thrilling five-goal contest in Inter's favour. For the second game in succession, CSKA had recovered from two goals down, Alan Dzagoev's free-kick and Vágner Love drawing them level after Lúcio and Giampaolo Pazzini had set the pace for the visitors. Zárate then secured victory in new coach 's first European game at the helm. • It was a splendid way for the Nerazzurri to recover from the shock of losing at home to debutants Trabzonspor AŞ on matchday one. After winning in Moscow the 2010 UEFA Champions League winners recorded successive victories against Lille, 1-0 away and 2-1 at home. • CSKA came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Lille on matchday one, scoring twice in the final 18 minutes. They took four points off Trabzonspor, including a 3-0 home win, before the Lille reverse. Previous meetings • The clubs met in the quarter-finals two seasons ago having also crossed paths in the 2007/08 group stage, the Italian team coming out on top in all four games. • In 2009/10, during Inter's march towards winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time, the San Siro quarter-final first leg ended with having given the home side the edge. A week later, Wesley Sneijder's early free-kick earned José Mourinho's team another 1-0 win. • The lineups at San Siro on 31 March 2010 were: Inter: César, Zanetti, Maicon, Samuel, Materazzi, Stanković, Sneijder, Cambiasso, Eto'o, Milito, Pandev (Mariga 90+4). CSKA: Akinfeev, Šemberas, Ignashevich, A Berezutski, V Berezutski, Shennikov, Krasić, Mamaev (González 73), Honda (Dzagoev 70), Aldonin (Rahimić 76), Necid. • In 2007/08, Inter had to come from behind to win both group games. In Moscow they triumphed 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Hernán Crespo (52) and Walter Samuel (80) following Jô's 32nd-minute opener for the hosts. • Inter produced an even more spectacular comeback in Milan where they trailed 2-0 to goals from Jô and Vágner Love, Esteban Cambiasso and Zlatan Ibrahimović both scoring in each half to secure a 4-2 success. Match background • In six other home European games with Russian visitors, Inter have won five and drawn one, all but one victory coming by a single-goal margin. • In four other away encounters against sides CSKA have won twice and lost only one. Their victories came in last season's UEFA Europa League group stage when they beat US Città di Palermo 3-0 and in the 1991/92 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round they beat AS Roma 1-0, although they still went out on away goals following a 2-1 home defeat. • A 0-0 draw away to Parma FC in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup semi-final first leg set up a 3-0 home success as CSKA became the first side from to win a European trophy. Team ties • Keisuke Honda and are team-mates with Japan. • Chidi Odiah and Joel Obi has played together for Nigeria. • Zoran Tošić and Dejan Stanković are team-mates with . • Vágner Love plays for Brazil together with Júlio César, Lúcio and Maicon. • Wesley Sneijder was on the losing side against and Sergei Ignashevich when Russia beat the Netherlands 3-1 in the UEFA EURO 2008 quarter-finals.

UEFA Champions League: Group stage milestones • Holders FC Barcelona have avoided becoming the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). • In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and were beaten 4-3 on aggregate in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), AFC Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta became the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League in 2007/08 when he featured against Olympiacos FC on matchday one at the age of 43 years and 168 days. The record was previously held by Alessandro Costacurta, the AC Milan defender who played against AEK Athens FC in 2006/07 at the age of 40 years and 211 days. Ballotta was aged 43 years 252 days when he featured against Real Madrid CF on matchday six. • Ryan Giggs is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 37 years and 289 days, in Manchester United's 1-1 draw at SL Benfica on 14 September 2011. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared in the UEFA Champions League. He was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was then sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997. • Barcelona and Manchester United FC have both finished as group winners on 12 occasions, one more than Real Madrid. • Four teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain FC (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96) and Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage). • Twelve teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, including MŠK Žilina and FK Partizan in 2010/11. The other ten are: Maccabi Haifa FC and Debreceni VSC (2009/10), FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08), PFC Levski Sofia (2006/07), SK Rapid Wien (2005/06), Anderlecht (2004/05), Spartak Moskva and (2002/03, first and second group stage respectively), Fenerbahçe SK (2001/02, first group stage) and 1. FC Košice (1997/98). • Manchester United scored 20 goals in the 1998/99 group stage, more than any other side has managed. Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage. • MŠK Žilina conceded 19 goals in their six outings in 2010/11, equalling the record let in during a group stage set by Debrecen (2009/10), Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and Ferencvárosi TC in 1995/96. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), AFC Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea FC (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06), Villarreal CF (2005/06) and Manchester United (2010/11) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, surpassing the unwanted record set by AEK Athens FC on matchday three of the same campaign. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is seven points. The first to do it, since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, were Legia Warszawa that same season before FC Dynamo Kyiv and Bayer 04 Leverkusen managed it in 1999/2000 and Liverpool in 2001/02. FC Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus both progressed with seven points in 2002/03, a feat achieved by Rangers FC and SV Werder Bremen in 2005/06.
