2. Composition / Information on Ingredients

Chemical Nature: Zinc salt of C16 – C18 fatty acids. OSHA Regulatory Status: Classified as hazardous under OSHA regulations. Hazardous Components: Zinc Stearate CAS No.: 557-05-1 wt. (%): 100 Component with workplace control parameters Zinc Stearate ACGIH TLV: 10 mg/m3 total dust for stearates OSHA PEL: 15 mg/m3 total dust, 5 mg/m3 respirable fraction

3. Hazards Identification Hazardous reactions: Risk of dust explosion. Can form combustible dust concentrations in air. Hazardous decomposition: No decomposition if used as directed. Materials to avoid: Strong oxidizing agents Potential Health Effects Inhalation: Symptoms from excessive inhalation of dust may include coughing and difficult breathing. Ingestion: Large dose may cause abdominal spasms and diarrhea. Skin Contact: May cause skin irritation. Eye contact: May cause mechanical irritation. Chronic Exposure: Grossly excessive and chronic inhalation of the dust may cause a progressive chemical pneumonitis, cyanosis, and pulmonary edema. Pre-existing Conditions: Persons with pre-existing skin disorders, impaired respiratory function, or a history of pulmonary disease should not be exposed to dusts.

4. First Aid Measures Eye Contact: Rinse with plenty of water. Get medical advice if irritation develops. Skin Contact: Wash exposed area with soap and water. Get medical advice if irritation develops. Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Get medical attention for any breathing difficulty. Ingestion: Clean mouth with water and drink several glasses of water to dilute.

5. Fire Fighting Measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray, dry chemical, alcohol foam, carbon dioxide (CO2), or sand. Extinguishing media not to use: High volume water jet must not be used for safety reasons. Specific fire fighting hazards: Fumes and vapors Special Information: In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full-face piece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. Pressure from the extinguishing media may cause severe dusting. Melted fatty acid can give a grease type fire. Explosion hazards apply only to dusts, not to granular forms of this product. Actual temperatures and concentrations may vary by product composition.

6. Accidental Release Measures Personal precautions: Avoid dust formation. Remove all sources of ignition. Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Avoid subsoil penetration. Cleaning methods: Use non-sparking tools and mechanical handling equipment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as specified in Section 8. Clean up spills in a manner that does not disperse dust into the air. Pick up spill for recovery or disposal and place in a closed container.

7. Handling and Storage Safe handling precautions: Employ grounding, venting and explosion relief provisions in accord with accepted engineering practices in any process capable of generating dust and/or static electricity. Avoid dust formation and ignition sources. Avoid formation and build-up of dust. Storage and containment: Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Protect against physical damage. Separate from incompatibilities.

8. Exposure Controls / Personal Protection Engineering measures: A system of local exhaust is recommended. Airborne Exposure Limits: OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL): 15mg/m3 total dust, 5mg/m3 respirable fraction for zinc stearate. ACGIH Threshold Limit Value (TLV): 10mg/m3 total dust for stearates. Personal Protective Equipment Respirator (NIOSH Approved): P1 filter respirator for inert particles Skin and body protection: Gloves and long-sleeve lab coat or coveralls Eye Protection: Safety glasses Hygiene measures: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using. Wash hands with soap and water before breaks and at the end of the workday. Shower or bathe at the end of the workday. Keep work clothes separate. Protective measures: Apply moisturizing lotion and other preventive skin protection. Wear antistatic shoes.
