Instructions for preparing the Application

1. The short-listing for entrance test is entirely based on the information in the application furnished by the Applicants 2. All entries shall be filled in CAPITAL letters only

3. NAME : As in Educational Certificates 4. AGE: In completed years; 5. DATE OF BIRTH: as per Class X certificate or other relevant document. 6. Specify your category from the choices given: General, OBC ( Non Creamy Layer), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) 7. If Physically challenged , specify your disability and give the % of disability 8. Please write your Permanent address and Communication address clearly. Hall tickets will be sent to eligible candidates to the ‘Communication Address’ given by the applicant. 9. EMAIL in Capital letters and Mobile number 10. All communication from GIFT to candidates after the entrance test will be through E-mail only. So check your e-mail regularly after the second week of Sept.2019 for any communication from GIFT 11. SC/ST/OBC-NCL(Non Creamy Layer)/Person with Disability (PWD) applicants should enclose self-attested copy of a valid certificate from the competent authority 12. Enclose self-attested copies of Mark sheets and certificates of Bachelor’s and Master’s/M. Phil, Certificate proving date of birth and Category certificate (Category certificate - ONLY for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and Person with Disability (PWD) candidates). Copies of Mark/Grade sheets for all parts/semesters should also have the evaluation scheme and other details printed overleaf. This is essential to understand the norms of your University/Board. If qualified in UGC/CSIR/ICAR NET for JRF/ Lectureship or the Eligibility Test conducted by states, enclose a self-attested copy of the certificate from UGC/CSIR/ICAR/Authority conducting the state eligibility test. 13. The Research Proposal as per the format enclosed , should be in English; typed or word-processed and should be not more than 1000 words. It will be used during the interview to evaluate the candidate on reasoning and economic insight and well as on research interests and capabilities.

Applications without Research Proposal will be summarily rejected.

14. Papers published or accepted for publication in academic journals only, need to be submitted. 15. Fill up all items in the hall ticket except those reserved for office use only. Affix your recent passport size photograph (same as pasted in the Application form). Send the hall ticket along with the application form. We will send the hall ticket to eligible candidates by registered post/speed post in the second week of December 2020 to the ‘Communication Address/Email I.D’ given by the applicant. Communication Address in the application will be considered as the current place of residence for the purpose of travel assistance for attending the interview at GIFT 16. Those awaiting the results of the Master’s Degree having cleared UGC_NET/JRF can also apply. However, such candidates should be declared as eligible for award of the Degree, before the commencement of the Programme 17. Applications of candidates working in Government Departments and Public sector undertakings should be forwarded through proper channel along with a no objection certificate from the competent authority. However an advance copy may be submitted, if expecting procedural delays

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL An indicative outline for the detailed research proposal is given below: 1) Title: The research proposal should have a clear, meaningful and concise title reflecting the scope of the investigation.

2) Introduction and / or Statement of the Problem

The research proposal should begin by clearly stating the research problem to be investigated in the light of its theoretical and/or empirical context in the relevant area. 3) Objectives of the Study

The general aim of the study as well as well as its specific objectives should be clearly stated in the proposal. 4) Conceptual Framework of the Study

Given the problem and the theoretical perspective for investigation of the problem, the proposal should clearly bring out the concepts to be used and demonstrate their relevance for the study. Besides, the dimension of empirical reality that needs to be explored for investigating the problem should also be specified. 5) Research Question or Hypotheses of the Study

Given the conceptual framework and the specification of dimension, the specific questions to be answered through the proposed research should be sharply formulated. In the case of an explanatory research design, specification of variables and positing of relationship among them through specific hypotheses must form a part of the research proposal. 6) Review of Literature of the Study

The proposal should summarize the current status of research in the area and major findings, including the researcher's own work in the area. Existing empirical findings may also be discussed. The overview should clearly demonstrate the relevance as well as inadequacy of existing findings or approaches and provide a rationale for the proposed study. 7) Scope and Methodology of the study

The researcher must describe in detail (a) the scope and coverage of her/his study; and (b) approach and methodology with adequate justification. Emphasis should be given to bringing out innovativeness in approaches proposed to be followed. The detailing of the methodology may include research design, data to be collected and empirical and analytical methods to be used. The description of the methodology must be clearly linked to the aims of the research and the research questions/hypotheses of the study.

8) Relevance, Anticipated Outcomes and Proposed Outputs from the Research

The proposal should include a statement on the relevance of the study and the anticipated outcomes. It should bring out the significance of the research problem, the contribution which the proposed study is expected to make to theory and to methodology as well as its practical importance to society and policy making. It should also describe the proposed outputs from the study (Books, research papers, occasional papers with themes etc.) 9) Tentative Chapterisation /Scheme of the Study

Details of chapterisation should be clearly spelt out in the research proposal 10) Bibliography: Bibliography should be prepared in Chicago Manual Style.
