The Department of Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment(a), in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 5(2) of the Education (Unrecognised Degrees) (Northern Ireland) Order 1988(b) and now exercisable by it(c) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order. Citation, commencement and interpretation 1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Education (Listed Bodies) Order (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 15th January 2001. (2) In this Order “the Department” means the Department of Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment. Listed bodies 2. For the purposes of Article 5(2) of the Education (Unrecognised Degrees) (Northern Ireland) Order 1988, the Department hereby publishes the list set out in the Schedule as the list including the name of every body which appears to it to fall for the time being within Article 5(3) of that Order. Revocation 3. The Education (Listed Bodies) Order (Northern Ireland) 1989(d) is hereby revoked. 12 EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order.) This Order repeals and replaces the Education (Listed Bodies) Order (Northern Ireland) 1989. The Order contains the list of the names of each body which is not a recognised body within Article 3(2)(a) or (b) of the Education (Unrecognised Degrees) (Northern Ireland) Order 1988 but which either— (a) provides any course which is in preparation for a degree to be granted by such a recognised body and is approved by or on behalf of that body; or (b) is a constituent college, school or hall or other institution of a university which is such a recognised body. A recognised body within Article 3 (2)(a) or (b) of the 1988 Order is one which is authorised by Royal Charter or Act of Parliament to grant degrees or one which is permitted by a body so authorised to act on its behalf in the granting of degrees. Such degrees are “recognised awards” and the provision of Article 3(1) of that Order which makes it an offence to grant, offer to grant or issue any invitation relating to certain unrecognised degrees and awards, does not apply to them.
