2011 Presentation 2011 TEAM INFORMATION MANUAL www.gt1world.com 1 PRESENTATION OF THE 2011 SEASON Introduction One championship, one category, 28 cars and 8 brands represented on a single grid. Now in its sixth year the FIA GT3 European Championship has continued to attract teams and drivers from across the world resulting in large grids and action packed racing. Although present in all the major national GT Championships, the GT3 pinnacle remains the FIA GT3 European Championship. A championship for the latest generation of sportscar; with few modifications allowed from the road-going models, their performance is balanced using the techniques developed and proven in the FIA GT Championship and its successor the FIA GT1 World Championship. Each model should be represented by a minimum of 2 cars (usually for new models) and a maximum of 6 cars, entered by two car teams. The FIA GT3 European Championship is reserved for non-professional drivers and an overall title is awarded for Drivers and Team champions. The fastest Champion driver receives a €150,000 prize-fund and up to 40 sets of Michelin tyres to move up to the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2012. Steady progress with makes… Eight makes will be represented this season on the FIA GT3 European Championship grid, with the welcome addition of the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes- Benz SLS AMG GT3 and the possible inclusion of the recently launched McLaren GT later this year or for the 2012 season. 2011, another unique and exiting season to look forward to it. Balance of Performance Testing The balance of performance and adjustments to the technical specifications of the cars are carried out by and under the control of the GT Committee. Therefore SRO organise testing sessions used by teams and the FIA. In 2011 the teams had the opportunity to test their cars and select drivers for the season on the following tracks: ° 1st and 2 nd April Portimao (PRT) Jean-Marc Gounon and Renger van der Zande as the FIA official testing drivers. ° 4th and 5 th April Navarra (ESP) Jean-Marc Gounon and Kurt Mollekens as the FIA offical testing drivers. ° 7th and 8 th April Paul Ricard (FRA) Jean-Marc Gounon as the FIA official testing driver. 2 PRESENTATION OF THE 2011 SEASON Calendar In 2011, the FIA GT3 European Championship will benefit from sharing 4 events with the FIA GT1 World Championship and will be the main competition at 2 other events. Event Format In general, the FIA GT3 European Championship event takes place over three days. Duration Approx. During the two day event, the checks should take place on Friday, the briefing and free practices on Saturday and the races on Sunday. 4 WHAT IS NEW IN 2011 Race by Race Entrants New in 2011 is the possibility for teams to take part in all events of the FIA GT3 European Championship as a race by race entrant. Depending on the numbers of places available, within the limitation of a maximum of 6 cars per brand. The entry fee is fixed at 4,000 Euros per car. For further information please contact the FIA GT3 team coordinator Ina Fabry [email protected] Compensation Times Success Ballast, which has been a feature of the FIA GT3 European Championship since 2009, has been replaced with Compensation Times for the 2011 season. Instead of the top three cars and drivers being awarded +20kg, +15kg and +10kg in each race, they will receive a time of +15 seconds for 1st place, +10 seconds for second place and +5 seconds for 3rd, which will be added to the minimum pit stop duration set for the following race in the Championship. New Models Joining the Championship Ferrari's all-new supercar, the 458 Italia was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 and the racing version was developed for the 2011 season. Intended as a replacement for the F430, the Ferrari 458 Italia is a completely new car from every point of view: engine, design, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation, and ergonomics. A two-seater berlinetta, the 458 Italia is powered by an all-new 4.5-litre V8. The car's name derives from its engine's displacement of 4.5-litres and the amount of cylinders (8). The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 serves up an exciting proposition with its unique technology package: aluminium spaceframe body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front- mid engine developing 420 kW/571 hp peak output and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones. The ideal front/rear weight distribution of 48 to 52 percent and the vehicle's low centre of gravity are testimony to the uncompromising sports car concept. 5 EVENT CONCEPT The FIA GT Events The 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship will benefit like in 2010 from the ambiance and entertainment organized by the FIA GT1 World Championship events. As well as plenty of action on track, with a packed timetable including exiting Motorsport action from dawn to dusk and sometimes beyond, the spectators at the event are never lost for things to do! Autograph sessions, where the public can meet the drivers and get a copy of the event poster signed. Supercar park: for street going versions of the cars on track, the owners of the most beautiful cars attending the FIA GT events have the opportunity to park their cars in the paddock to the delight of the spectators. 6 CAR CONCEPT The Cars GT3 cars: Sensational models The past five seasons of the GT3 Championship brought together the world’s most sensational cars on six challenging circuits all around Europe. The races were impressive and full of action. The 2011 season promise to be wonderful welcome addition of the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 and the possible inclusion of the recently launched McLaren GT later this year or for the 2012 season. Aston Martin DBRS9 Audi R8 LMS BMW Z4 GT3 Ferrari 458 Italia Ford GT Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 Porsche 911 GT3 R With 28 cars entered in the Championship and 8 brands, the FIA GT3 European Championship is undoubtedly one of the most attractive Championships in Europe. 7 CAR CONCEPT Sporting Regulations ° Six events, with two-hour races per event. ° Two cars per team, two drivers per car. ° A maximum of six cars per brand represented. The six cars limit per model can be exceeded if a GT1 World Championship team wishes to enter two cars in the FIA GT3 European Championship. ° Two 20-minute qualifying sessions per meeting, separated by a 10-minute break, with each driver taking part in one session, to set the grid for the two races. ° Two one-hour races with a rolling start and an obligatory pit stop and driver change between the 25 th and 35 th minute of the race. ° Points awarded to the top ten in each race, according to the scale 25 – 18 – 15 – 12 – 10 – 8 – 6 – 4 – 2 – 1. ° Compensation times awarded to the top three cars in each race according the scale +15 seconds for 1st place, +10 seconds for second place and +5 seconds for 3rd, which will be added to the minimum pit stop duration set for the following race in the Championship. The balance of performance and adjustments to the technical specifications of the cars are carried out by and/or under the control of the GT Committee. All cars are fitted with a data logging system and the data is at the disposal of the GT Committee.
