1 PRESENTATION OF THE 2011 SEASON

Introduction

One championship, one category, 28 cars and 8 brands represented on a single grid.

Now in its sixth year the FIA GT3 European Championship has continued to attract teams and drivers from across the world resulting in large grids and action packed racing. Although present in all the major national GT Championships, the GT3 pinnacle remains the FIA GT3 European Championship.

A championship for the latest generation of sportscar; with few modifications allowed from the road-going models, their performance is balanced using the techniques developed and proven in the FIA GT Championship and its successor the FIA GT1 World Championship. Each model should be represented by a minimum of 2 cars (usually for new models) and a maximum of 6 cars, entered by two car teams.

The FIA GT3 European Championship is reserved for non-professional drivers and an overall title is awarded for Drivers and Team champions. The fastest Champion driver receives a €150,000 prize-fund and up to 40 sets of Michelin tyres to move up to the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2012.

Steady progress with makes… Eight makes will be represented this season on the FIA GT3 European Championship grid, with the welcome addition of the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes- Benz SLS AMG GT3 and the possible inclusion of the recently launched McLaren GT later this year or for the 2012 season.

2011, another unique and exiting season to look forward to it. Balance of Performance Testing

The balance of performance and adjustments to the technical specifications of the cars are carried out by and under the control of the GT Committee. Therefore SRO organise testing sessions used by teams and the FIA.

In 2011 the teams had the opportunity to test their cars and select drivers for the season on the following tracks:

° 1st and 2 nd April Portimao (PRT) Jean-Marc Gounon and Renger van der Zande as the FIA official testing drivers.

° 4th and 5 th April Navarra (ESP) Jean-Marc Gounon and Kurt Mollekens as the FIA offical testing drivers.

° 7th and 8 th April Paul Ricard (FRA) Jean-Marc Gounon as the FIA official testing driver.

Compensation Times

Success Ballast, which has been a feature of the FIA GT3 European Championship since 2009, has been replaced with Compensation Times for the 2011 season. Instead of the top three cars and drivers being awarded +20kg, +15kg and +10kg in each race, they will receive a time of +15 seconds for 1st place, +10 seconds for second place and +5 seconds for 3rd, which will be added to the minimum pit stop duration set for the following race in the Championship.

New Models Joining the Championship

Ferrari's all-new supercar, the 458 Italia was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 and the racing version was developed for the 2011 season. Intended as a replacement for the F430, the Ferrari 458 Italia is a completely new car from every point of view: engine, design, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation, and ergonomics. A two-seater berlinetta, the 458 Italia is powered by an all-new 4.5-litre V8. The car's name derives from its engine's displacement of 4.5-litres and the amount of cylinders (8).

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 serves up an exciting proposition with its unique technology package: aluminium spaceframe body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front- mid engine developing 420 kW/571 hp peak output and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones. The ideal front/rear weight distribution of 48 to 52 percent and the vehicle's low centre of gravity are testimony to the uncompromising sports car concept.

5 EVENT CONCEPT

The FIA GT Events

The 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship will benefit like in 2010 from the ambiance and entertainment organized by the FIA GT1 World Championship events.

The Teams

Competitors Entry

The Championship is reserved for private teams and non-professional drivers. Each team has to enter 2 cars and each model has to be represented by a minimum of 2 cars and a maximum of 3 teams.

Since 2010, teams participating in the FIA GT1 World Championship have the possibility to enter a 2-car team in the FIA GT3 European Championship even if it exceeds the maximum numbers of cars for that model.

Priority to pre-enter the 2011 season until end-January have 2010 teams. From January 31 st a team could confirm its request of entry to the FIA by submitting the entry form and paying the entry feed by April 13 th 2011.

The entry fee is 25,000 Euros per car, including entry to all six rounds.

Race by Race Entry

New in 2011 is the possibility for teams to take part in all events of the FIA GT3 European Championship as a race by race entrant. Depending on the numbers of places available, within the limit of 6 cars per brand.

The entry fee is fixed at 4,000 Euros per car.

The title of FIA GT3 European Championship for teams

In the year 2006 saw Tech 9 Motorsport, Porsche winning team the title; 2007 put Martini Callaway, Corvette team in the limelight and 2008 was dominated by Matech GT Racing team. For 2009 Hexis Racing AMR, Aston Martin team won the team Championship and in 2010 after a long and hard fight Prospeed Competition, Porsche winning team aimed for the title of the FIA GT3 European Team Championship.

With a promising competition of 8 brands on the grid and 14 teams, the 2011 winning team will have to fight hard for their Team Championship title.

13 SERIES CONCEPT

Official Presentation of the Teams and their Cars

One key aspect of the FIA GT3 European Championship is the smart presentation of the teams, drivers and their cars. Therefore an official presentation chart was created in its inaugural season and subsequently adapted to the colours of each manufacturer represented.

Since then, the teams and drivers have followed these guidelines, which make their presentation very professional and unique.

Additional other elements were added to this concept, such as team personnel presentation, the pit panels and the presentation of the cars.

° The two cars belonging to the same team must bear decorations of a similar design, but may display different sponsors. The mandatory racing decals are provided by SRO at each round.

° The garage or awning must be fitted out, with a floor covering and pit panels* representing the Championship official design and adapted to each Manufacturer’s official colour.

* The related design files for each manufacturer are available from SRO for the teams to produce.

° The SRO will provide each team with one pit board representing the name of the team, the make of the car and its racing numbers to be displayed in the awning or pit entrance.

14 SERIES CONCEPT

Timekeeping

BLANCPAIN is the official timekeeper of the FIA GT3 European Championship, and SWISSTIMING has been appointed to provide the FIA GT3 European Championship with the timekeeping, results and broadcast TV caption service.

The 2011 timing service will provide timing at the finish line and two intermediate points, together with pit entrance and pit exit.

Timing information and official messages from Race Control will be displayed on eight screens of video information, relayed to the pit lane and media through the circuit CCTV systems.

Transponders The multi-driver transponder chosen for the 2011 season is the TranX 260dpi from Mylaps, formerly known as AMB.

Accident Data Recorder

According to article 65a of the 2011 Sporting Regulations, the Accident Data Recorder (ADR) must be used throughout the Championship by each competitor entered for the season. This unit must be installed in strict compliance with the relevant instructions and must work at all times during the Event. (please see the applicable sporting regulations / FIA website).

The unit that has been chosen is the IWI-N10 ADR device. It needs to be installed in each car according to the position shown in the guidelines issued by the FIA Institute.

Data Logger

A data acquisition system approved by the FIA must be fitted on one of the 2 cars taking part in the Championship. This system serves exclusively for the storage of data and is used confidentially by the FIA alone. It is the responsibility of each competitor to obtain this system at their own expenses from Peter Instruments, the supplier designated by the FIA, to install and to make it work correctly. Throughout the entire event the competitor must make the data acquisition system available to the Technical Delegate for checking.

For further information about transponder, accident data recorder or data logger, please contact Ina Fabry [email protected] .
