1 2 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Vidyaprasarak Mandal Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal, popularly known as GVM was founded by visionaries like Dr. Dada Vaidya, Shri Sitaram Kerkar and Shri Vinayak Sarjyotishi on October 2, 1911 (Vijay Dashami day). The intention of the founders was not merely to impart formal education for white collared jobs but to provide for the future generation, who would be proud of our rich and varied cultural heritage and who would, with confidence, shoulder responsibilities in the task of nation-building. The first institution to be established was the A. J. de Almeida High School at Ponda. Subsequently in 1960, four more high schools were established, R.P.R.S High School at Bandora, K.R.S.S. High School at Savoi Verem, Pragati Vidyalaya at Borim and M.I.B.K. High School at Khandepar. The S.N.J.A. Higher Secondary School and K.G. and Primary School were started in 1975. GVM’s Adarsh Higher Secondary School, Ponda was established in 2015. GVM’s Utkarsh Vidyalaya, Ponda was established in 2017. GVM set up two colleges, GGPR College of Commerce & Economics and Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education both at Ponda. In all GVM has over 9000 students and 450 teaching and non teaching staff on its rolls.

1.2 G.V.M’s Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education The College of Education was established in 1993 in response to the growing demand for teacher education. The college is affiliated to and recognised by NCTE. It has been accredited by NAAC with a B+ grade (2nd Cycle) in the year 2017. Vision Goa Vidyaprasark Mandal’s Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education is committed to the professional development of teachers, both pre-service and in-service, for reflective, constructive and value-based teaching-learning employing both insight and technology within the ambit of the native socio-cultural perspective.

Orienting them to the service of the community for its educational and socio- cultural resurgence.

3 1.3 Programmes offered 1. M. Ed. This is a two-year (4 Semesters) programme affiliated to the Goa University and recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education. This four semester course helps to crack UGC-NET exam and present papers at national and international level. More exposure is given to research, doing projects for society building in tandem with community engagement. Our staff is internationally recognized and dedicated to revamping the current education system. Our novice department hosted – • Two National, One International and One World Conference on Education. • Five National level webinars were conducted. • Eleven students cracked UGC- NET exam in the first attempt, • Twenty six students presented papers in National conferences and seminars. • Twenty four paper publication till now. • Twelve students attended and presented papers in International conferences. • Training in virtual labs, MOOCs and other online teaching pedagogies is also imparted. 2. Research Center The Research Centre of the College has been recognized and affiliated to Goa University and provides an opportunity for those desirous of doing a Ph. D in Education both in regular and part time mode. Admissions are done by Goa University, having 3 Guides of which 2 are guiding 6 research scholars each. The goal of our Research Center is to enable interaction between faculty, scholars, and students to enhance research opportunities, academic excellence, real-world problem solving, knowledge creation and dissemination. Colloquiums that are conducted, provide an atmosphere for healthy exchange of ideas, which results in a fertile research environment. The doctoral students and visiting scholars, work with faculty members to drive the research output at the Center. The Center also enjoys the support of a distinguished set of faculty members. It is well-accepted that the Academic Research Center has contributed enormously to find solutions to many problems in the field of education. The research findings provides basic inputs that can be used for planning and policy decision-making.

3. B. Ed. This programme is based on the curriculum prescribed by the Goa University to which this college is affiliated with an intake of 100 students (2 units of 50 students). 4. M. A. Education This is a Two year programme run by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) through distance mode. Admissions are done by IGNOU through its Regional Centre at . The Study Centre 0806P attached to the College comes under the Panaji Region. 5. Diploma in Pre-Primary Teacher Training The College conducts a One year Diploma programme in Pre-primary teacher training affiliated to the Goa University. The programme deals with the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching children in the age group of 3-6 years.

4 M. Ed. Programme: a) The M.Ed. programme which has been recognized by NCTE started from the Academic year 2019-2021. The syllabus for the M. Ed. has been approved by Goa University and governed by Ordinance OC-29. The Masters of Education Programme is a two year programme in the field of Teacher Education, preparing Teacher Educators and other professionals including curriculum developers, educational policy analysts, planners, administrators, supervisors, Principals/School Heads and researchers in the field of Education. After the completion of M.Ed. degree the student shall specialise in either Elementary Education (upto class VIII) or in Secondary Education (classes IX-XII). b) Duration of the Programme: M. Ed. Programme shall be of two academic years or four semesters. This programme shall include, besides theory courses, field attachment for a minimum of 4 weeks and a research dissertation. Students shall be permitted to complete the programme requirements of the two years programme within a maximum period of three years from the date of admission to the programme. The minimum attendance shall be 80% of the Theory courses and Practicum and 90% for field attachment. 1.4 Department of Extension Services GVM’s Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education established the Department of Extension Services in 1995, the second dimension of the College for the in-service training of teachers. The department is equipped with a wide range of library books and seminar halls with good sitting and presentation modes. The department collaborates with SCERT, Directorate of Education, DIET, Super School Complex, Teacher organizations, and National level organizations such as NCERT, IGNOU and NCTE for conducting various training programmes 1.5 The Resources • We have a committed group of teachers and non-teaching staff. The faculty members are well qualified with 80% of them having qualified in NET/SET, three have acquired Ph.D and three have M.Phil degrees. The academic and administrative talents of the staff are well recognized by the fact that they are associated with various State (SCERT, DIET, Goa University, Directorate of Education, Goa Board) and National level organizations(NCERT, NCTE, NAAC, NLI) as resource persons, committee members etc. • Well equipped library with an excellent collection of reference books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, journals and CD ROMs • Well equipped computer center with LAN networked computers, printers, digital camera, handy cam, scanner and unlimited broadband internet access for every learner • Office automation using computers, fax, scanners and printers • Classrooms are equipped with Laptops, LCD projectors, Intelligent Interactive Panels etc. • On-line Library resources • Language Laboratory • Well equipped Audio Visual room with state of the Art facilities for recording

The results of the institution have been consistently high with many students scoring distinctions. 5 2. Rules of Admission 1. The application form along with the prospectus will be available at G.V.M’s College Education, Ponda on Payment of Rs.1000/- in cash or by Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Principal, G.V.M’s College of Education, Ponda of any Scheduled/Nationalised Bank. 2. The application form must be accompanied by attested copies of relevant certificates and testimonials as per the list in the application form, A recent (taken not earlier than 3 months from the date of application) passport size photograph should be affixed to the acknowledgement cum admission card and to the admission form in the space provided. 3. In case the applicant is admitted to the M.Ed Programme, he/she will be required to submit the Passing and Transfer Certificate or Provisional Eligibility Certificate as the case may be within two weeks from the date of admission, for confirmation of admission, failing which the admission is liable to be cancelled and college authorities will not be responsible for the same. 4. Reservation of seats is as per State Government policy. 5. The Applicant claiming a seat in any of the Reserved categories is required to submit, along with the application form, the caste/relevant certificate from the competent authority. 6. The academic eligibility shall be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. 7. Admission shall be strictly based on Merit. 8. Inviting applications for M.Ed. Programme does not confer any right or claim to the programme in the College. 9. If the seats reserved for various categories remain vacant, the same shall be transferred to the General Category. 10. The decision of the Principal shall be final and binding. 11. Applicants, who have passed the qualifying examination from Universities other than Goa University, shall be required to produce the provisional eligibility certificate from Goa University within two weeks after securing admission to the College, without which the admission shall not be confirmed and liable to be cancelled.

3. Eligibility

3.1 The applicant shall be a citizen of . 3.2 A candidate for the M.Ed. programme should have obtained at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the following programmes:

(5% relaxation is given to candidates from the SC/ST/OBC categories). 6 4. Certificates and Testimonials

Attested photocopies of the following documents should be attached to the application form, failing which the application form shall not be accepted. The documents should be attached in the following order:

Essentials for all applicants 1. Statement of marks of Graduation/Post Graduation or its equivalent examination.

2. Two copies of recent passport size photographs, one of which should be affixed on the application form.

Wherever applicable

3. Applicants claiming seats reserved for SC/ST category should produce Non Migrant Caste Certificate in the prescribed pro-forma (Annexure II) from the Dy. Collector of the area concerned. Certificates issued by Village Panchayat/ Mamlatdar shall not be accepted.

4. Applicants claiming seats reserved for OBC category should produce Caste Certificate (non-creamy layer) in the prescribed pro-forma (Annexure III) from the Dy. Collector of the area concerned. Certificates issued by Village Panchayat/ Mamlatdar shall not be accepted.

5. Applicants claiming seats reserved for the children of Goa State/Central Government Employees including Goa State/Central Government/Public Sector Undertaking and Defence Personnel will be required to produce the till date Service Certificate of the parent from the Head of Office/Department about posting of the parent. The Service Certificate should indicate the full name of the parent, designation, date of transfer order, date of joining and present status of posting.

6. Applicants claiming seats reserved for children of person staying in Goa for purpose of occupation shall be required to produce a Certificate of his/her parent from the employer in case of Service or certificate of establishment in case of self employment, indicating the date and period of employment.

7. Applicants claiming the seat reserved for the children of Ex-service men shall be required to produce a certificate from the Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board indicating the full name and date and Registration number of ex-serviceman.

8. Applicants claiming seats reserved for the children of Goan natives shall produce a certificate of nativity, (either by birth or by domicile in Goa), either of parents/ grandparents from the competent authority, with the certificate that the applicant has passed the qualifying examination from the schools/colleges located outside Goa, but within India.

9. EWS- Reserved for Economically Weaker Sections of Goa. All eligible candidates from General Category Merit List shall be considered eligible for availing seats under Economically Weaker Sections Scheme, provided they submit EWS Certificate from a competent authority with their application form.

7 5. Admission Procedure

1. Only those applicants who have applied in response to the prospectus of 2021-2023 and submitted their application duly completed in all respects at the college on or before the last date and time and satisfy the eligibility criteria will be considered for admission to the M. Ed. programme/strictly in order of merit

2. The final merit list will be displayed on the Notice Board at the College.

3. The provisionally admitted students shall take admission on or before the specified date mentioned on the Admission Card, failing which the admission shall stand cancelled and thereafter no request will be considered for re- admission.

4. Rules regarding cancellation of fees and refunds thereafter shall be governed as per the Goa University directives to the Colleges.
