Never in the history of the modern Games had a host city so clearly manifested Olympic identity. Each of the Olympic installations and the principal thorough- fares leading to them were decorated by the Department of Urban Design. The vast plaza of Olympic Stadium (opposite) was painted with radial elements- derived from the logotype-which served to demark entrances.

Mexico's famed "Judas" pyrotechnic figures were the inspiration for prodi- gious reinforced fiberglass sculptures representing players of each of the Olympic sports. The Games of the XIX Olympiad inspired a veritable deluge of creations by Mexican designers. The Olympic Torch, identification badges and commemorative medallions (right), as well as many of- ficial souvenirs were designed by the Organizing Committee. Other souvenirs were produced by au- thorized concessionaires, and a series of Olympic-inspired hats (above) was created by Helen Vera.

The ground floor of the Olympic Center on Paseo de la Reforma became the site for an exhibition of many of the graphic elements and publications in the Program of Olympic Identity. This exhibit, which was inaugurated during the Olympic period, remained open until the end of the year.

In New York (left column), an exhibit of the Identity Program was presented at the Graphics Center (top) and the logotype poster was displayed at the Museum of Modern Art. Folding units (bottom) formed mailable exhibits for world-wide distribution.

Under the supervision of architect Eduardo Terrazas, the Organizing Committee designed and constructed a special pavilion for the XIV Triennial of Milan. The structure, a three-dimensional adaptation of the MEXICO 68 logotype, contained a presentation of the Olympic Identity Program.
