Easthampton, MA 01027 Phone 413-454-3258 [email protected] SUMMARY: A broad-based, experienced broadcaster at both the radio station and network level with management, affiliate sales, creative programming and multi-market syndication experience. An extensive technical background in electronics, recording, satellite program delivery and “power user” computer status contributes to a thorough com- mand of all aspects of the industry. In all situations I’ve either been a team player or leader with a clear understand- ing of the importance of every department in a productively functioning radio station. Particularly important is a cooperative attitude toward advancing sales objectives in ways that benefit the client and the programming. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Rich Wood Multimedia, Easthampton, MA/New York, NY - Radio Station, Network & Syndication Consulting/Production Services/Talent Coaching - 10/2002 - Present Into Tomorrow with Dave Graveline - Miami, FL - Weekend technology show - Self syndicated via Advanced Radio Network, XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio - The Money Pit with Tom Krautler - Weekend home improvement show - Self syndicated, XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio Radio-Studio Network/MOR Media - New York, NY - Program and feature delivery services via MP3 Liberty Radio (formerly Talk America Radio Networks), IDT Corporation, Newark, NJ Director - Senior Vice President Marketing/Operations - 10/2001- 9/2002 Responsible for all aspects of the network’s operation and programming. Oversaw, with Engineering, the network’s move from Las Vegas to Newark and the construction of state of the art studios. Responsible for all air talent, the affiliation department and coordination of sales and programming and converting the network from paid programming to ratings and sales driven shows. Company dramatically downsized by eliminating positions held by all experienced broadcast management Weekend programming was also eliminated and affiliation services moved to Israel. Doug Stephan Productions, New York, NY/Framingham, MA General Manager – 6/2001 - 10/2001 Took a 2 month “sabbatical,” then joined the company as an independent contractor running a New York office (as Rich Wood Multimedia) to handle talent advice and coordination of the three networks that cleared Doug Stephan’s Good Day show - Talk America and Radio America. After September 11th’s terrorist attack advertising dried up and, with Doug’s encouragement, I joined Talk America, effectively continuing with the show at the network level. WOR & WOR Radio Networks, Buckley Broadcasting Corp., New York, NY Director – 12/91 - 4/2001 Hired by WOR to create a satellite delivered radio network to distribute WOR, New York, programming. Developed all systems, procedures, advertising and marketing campaigns and affiliated all the early stations in the first 7 years. The network grew from one station (WOR) to a high of nearly 400 affiliates. A two hour program feed (The Dolans) grew to a full time, 24 hour network with 11 shows. Close cooperation was required with the Network’s sales agents, Premiere Radio Networks The WOR Radio Network is regarded among the top four Talk Networks in the industry. Since WOR provided the network’s programming I was intimately involved in WOR’s operation. Capital Cities/ABC, New York, NY Director, Station Relations – 2/89 – 11/91 Conducted all affiliation and station relations activities for Network Talk Programming. Programs included Sally Jesse Raphael, Tom Snyder, Dr. Joy Browne, Michael Jackson (from KABC), Bob Brinker and others. Delivered additional and upgraded station affiliations in all market sizes, particularly majors. Succeeded in increasing the Talk Radio Network affiliate base by more than 25% while retaining existing affiliates. An extensive adult format (AC, EZ, Talk) programming background was invaluable in providing a consultant-type service to stations. Operational problem solving, programming, ratings research/analysis and station positioning we all part of daily responsibilities. Free Flight Productions, New York, NY and Homer, AK Producer – 4/88 – 2/89 Producer of The End of the Road with Tom Bodett (of Motel 6 commercial fame). Weekly satellite delivered humor/ variety show airing on approximately 155 stations (40 in top 50 markets). Performed creative consultation, affiliate relations, recording before a live audience in Alaska, post production mixing and network preparation in New York. Position required monthly trips to Alaska for recording sessions. This startup had a pre-debut station lineup of 115 stations. WQCD, Tribune Broadcasting, New York, NY Program Director – 2/87 – 4/88 Performed all programming duties. Programmed music, supervised production department, coordinated promotional activities (contesting, TV/Print campaigns), directed 12 full and part-time announcers and related budgets. An exten- sive knowledge of computers and computer assisted music systems (Selector) gave station a genuine personality and musical identity it had lost. Station was Adult Contemporary. My suggestion that the format be changed to Smooth Jazz was ultimately implemented. Formerly WPIX-FM.
