Gimme Danger Amazon Studios, Magnolia Pictures, & Low Mind Films In Association with Better Wide Present GIMME DANGER A Film by Jim Jarmusch Running time: 108 min Official Selection 2016 Cannes Film Festival – World Premiere 2016 Toronto International Film Festival 2016 New York Film Festival FINAL PRESS NOTES Distributed in Canada by Films We Like Bookings and inquires: [email protected] SYNOPSIS Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges’ powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Jim Jarmusch’s new film GIMME DANGER chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock- n-roll bands of all time. GIMME DANGER presents the context of the Stooges emergence musically, culturally, politically, historically, and relates their adventures and misadventures while charting their inspirations and the reasons behind their initial commercial challenges, as well as their long-lasting legacy. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT – JIM JARMUSCH No other band in rock’n’roll history has rivaled The Stooges’ combination of heavy primal throb, spiked psychedelia, blues-a-billy grind, complete with succinct angst-ridden lyrics, and a snarling, preening leopard of a front man who somehow embodies Nijinsky, Bruce Lee, Harpo Marx, and Arthur Rimbaud. There is no precedent for The Stooges, while those inspired by them are now legion. GIMME DANGER is more an 'essay' than a document. It's our love letter to possibly the greatest band in rock'n'roll history, and presents their story, their influences and their impact, complete with some never-before-seen footage and photographs. Like the Stooges and their music, GIMME DANGER is a little wild, messy, emotional, funny, primitive, and sophisticated in the most unrefined way. The Heart of Rock and Soul by Dave Marsh 20 BE MY BABY, The Ronettes Produced by Phil Spector; written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich, and Jeff Barry Philles 116 1963 Billboard: #2 DA DOO RON RON, The Crystals Produced by Phil Spector; written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich, and Jeff Barry Philles 112 1963 Billboard: #3 CHRISTMAS (BABY PLEASE COME HOME), Darlene Love Produced by Phil Spector; written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich, and Jeff Barry Philles 119 1963 Did not make pop charts To hear folks talk, Phil Spector made music out of a solitary vision. But the evidence of his greatest hits insists that he was heavily dependent on a variety of assistance. Which makes sense: Record making is fundamentally collaborative. Spector associates like engineer Larry Levine, arranger Jack Nitzsche, and husband-wife songwriters Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich were simply indispensable to his teen-art concoctions. Besides them, every Spector track featured a dozen or more musicians. The constant standouts were' drummer Hal Blaine, one of the most inventive and prolific in rock history, and saxophonist Steve Douglas. Finally, there were vast differences among Spector's complement of singers. An important part of Spector's genius stemmed from his ability to recruit, organize, and provide leadership within such a musical community. Darlene Love (who also recorded for Spector with the Crystals and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans) ranks just beneath Aretha Franklin among female rock singers, and "Christmas" is her greatest record, though it was never a hit. (The track probably achieved its greatest notice in the mid-eighties, when it was used over the opening credits of Joe Dante's film, Gremlins.) Spector's Wall of Sound, with its continuously thundering horns and strings, never seemed more massive than it does here.

SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISCOVERY OF CYNDI LAUPER AND BOSTON. The Early Years: It's a Friday night in early 1957. Fourteen year old Lennie Petze was excited to be at what was his first high school dance, "A Record Hop." A Disc Jockey was playing the hit 45's of the day. The sound was loud and bouncing off the wooden walls in the Weymouth Massachusetts High School gymnasium. A new sound of guitars, drums, pumping bass and vocals bred energy for all the teenagers anxious to dance, to a sound created by "Rock and Roll" The DJ replayed "Party Doll" by Buddy Knox five times in three hours! He also played "Poor Butterfly" by Charlie Gracie, "Roll Over Beethoven" by Chuck Berry, "Eddie My Love" by The Teen Queens and "I'm Sticking With You" by Jimmy Bowen. Lennie had heard all these songs on Boston radio, but this environment added another dimension of excitement. One that left him longing to create that environment for himself and become a bigger part of it. It was this experience that lead to experimenting with the formation of bands. Teens from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts; Weymouth, Quincy and Braintree that called themselves "The Rhythm Rockers", "The Rainbows"", and The Reveleers" kicking off a hugely successful music career lasting over 50 years.
