Savor every delicious plot and droll observation Sundays, at 9 PM. And during the January 4 premiere, join us for a live conversation on Facebook and Twitter @UNCTV with #DowntonPBS!

Will Lady Mary find new love? Will Anna and Mr. Bates survive her terrible secret? Will modern mores and technology bring more turmoil to the British aristocracy? Most importantly, will you want to miss a minute? We think not.

Who knows what turns of fate and cliffhangers await during the next nine episodes? But wait, there’s more! If you’ve not yet heard, production of a sixth Downton Abbey season is in the offing. So fret not, there will be more from whence season five comes—and as we say in television, same time, same station. Or, in our case, same network— after all, UNC-TV is North Carolina’s statewide public television network.

Carry on, Mr. Carson.

OUR STATE OF CHANGE Three Documentaries Examine Turbulent Times

Our state’s post-World War II era included the tectonic collision of opposing social forces that would shape both our history and future. This month, UNC-TV presents three films that chronicle those tumultuous times.

In A Generation of Change: Bill Friday, Terry Sanford & North Carolina from the 1920s to 1972 Generation of Change , premiering Thursday, (William Friday) January 8, at 10 PM, independent producer Steve Channing offers an epic profile of visionary North Carolina leaders—including the late William Friday—who returned from the battlefields of Europe and the Pacific to shepherd the state into an era of justice and prosperity.

The following Tuesday, January 13, a pair of films document resistance to that change and the struggle between opposing forces. At 9 PM, American Experience presents Klansville, U.S.A., recalling how the Ku Klux Klan rose defiantly in the 1960s against North Carolina’s forward-looking reputation, at one time boasting more than 10,000 members in the state. Then, at 10 PM, the Emmy®-nominated film The Editor & the Dragon: Horace Carter Fights the Klan recounts how the 32-year- The Editor & the Dragon: old Tabor City Tribune publisher dared to challenge the Horace Carter Fights the Klan Klan’s vigilante tactics, earning death threats as well as a Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for his courageous stand.
