Google Translate in Action

Project: Parent Teacher Conference Tool: Google Translate and Google Translate Grade/Subject: Any

The following is a true story of the power of Google Translate: A teacher, parent and student were waiting patiently for the school’s translator so they could begin their parentteacher conference. After a couple of minutes the teacher remembered her Google Translate App on her mobile device. She typed out a sentence and pressed the play button, the device proceeded to translate the sentence and read it aloud in the student’s home language. The mother immediately began to cry and typed out “No one at a school has ever been able to communicate with me without someone else translating for me.” On many mobile devices it’s now possible to speak into the device in one language and have the device read a translation aloud in another language.
