While Japan certainly possess talented players and have not missed a World Cup since their 1998 debut, they consistently underwhelm once they arrive at the big show. This summer may not be any different for them, especially given the turmoil in terms of the now former head coach Vahid Halilhodzic being sacked one month ago. With players like Shinji Kagawa, or Keisuke Honda, Genki Haraguchi, or even Leicester City’s Shinji Okasaki, Japan will field the talent to win games. -

What Is Brand
WHAT IS BRAND ANS. A brand is a product, service, or concept that is publicly distinguished from other products, services, or concepts so that it can be easily communicated and usually marketed. A brand name is the name of the distinctive product, service, or concept. Branding is the process of creating and disseminating the brand name. Branding can be applied to the entire corporate identity as well as to individual product and service names. Brands are usually protected from use by others by securing a trademark or service mark from an authorized agency, usually a government agency. Before applying for a trademark or service mark, you need to establish that someone else hasn't already obtained one for your name. Although you can do the searching yourself, it is common to hire a law firm that specializes in doing trademark searches and managing the application process, which, in the United States, takes about a year. Once you've learned that no one else is using it, you can begin to use your brand name as a trademark simply by stating it is a trademark (using the " TM " where it first appears in a publication or Web site). After you receive the trademark, you can use the registered (?) symbol after your trademark. Brands are often expressed in the form of logos , graphic representations of the brand. In computers, a recent example of widespread brand application was the "Intel Inside" label provided to manufacturers that use Intel's microchips. A company's brands and the public's awareness of them is often used as a factor in evaluating a company. -
Basque Soccer Madness a Dissertation Submitted in Partial
University of Nevada, Reno Sport, Nation, Gender: Basque Soccer Madness A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Basque Studies (Anthropology) by Mariann Vaczi Dr. Joseba Zulaika/Dissertation Advisor May, 2013 Copyright by Mariann Vaczi All Rights Reserved THE GRADUATE SCHOOL We recommend that the dissertation prepared under our supervision by Mariann Vaczi entitled Sport, Nation, Gender: Basque Soccer Madness be accepted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Joseba Zulaika, Advisor Sandra Ott, Committee Member Pello Salaburu, Committee Member Robert Winzeler, Committee Member Eleanor Nevins, Graduate School Representative Marsha H. Read, Ph. D., Dean, Graduate School May, 2013 i Abstract A centenarian Basque soccer club, Athletic Club (Bilbao) is the ethnographic locus of this dissertation. From a center of the Industrial Revolution, a major European port of capitalism and the birthplace of Basque nationalism and political violence, Bilbao turned into a post-Fordist paradigm of globalization and gentrification. Beyond traditional axes of identification that create social divisions, what unites Basques in Bizkaia province is a soccer team with a philosophy unique in the world of professional sports: Athletic only recruits local Basque players. Playing local becomes an important source of subjectivization and collective identity in one of the best soccer leagues (Spanish) of the most globalized game of the world. This dissertation takes soccer for a cultural performance that reveals relevant anthropological and sociological information about Bilbao, the province of Bizkaia, and the Basques. Early in the twentieth century, soccer was established as the hegemonic sports culture in Spain and in the Basque Country; it has become a multi- billion business, and it serves as a powerful political apparatus and symbolic capital. -
Madrid Close In
PREVIEW ISSUE FOUR – 24TH APRIL 2012 MADRID CLOSE IN REAL TAKE THE SPOILS IN THE EL CLASICO AND CLOSE IN ON THE SILVERWARE After a poor week for both sides in Europe, Real and Barca were desperate to grab a win against their biggest rivals on a dramatic, rain-lashed Saturday night at the Nou Camp. It was Real that grabbed the vital win and probably clinched the La Liga title. Los Merengues went ahead through German midfielders Sami Khedira and were comfortable for long periods, but Barca’s Chilean substitute Alexis Sánchez equalised with just 20 minutes remaining. Cristiano Ronaldo’s clinical strike just three minutes later settled the game with Madrid now seven points clear, with only four games remaining. Madrid coach José Mourinho named an very attacking team and his side began the better. Ronaldo’s early header from a corner brought a superb flying save from goalkeeper Víctor Valdés. His opposite number Iker Casillas was then quickly off his line when full-back Dani Alves dispossessed Sergio Ramos. The game was being played at a fearsome pace and French striker Karim Benzema brought the best out of Valdés again. Barca thought they had gone front when Alves had the ball in the net after a Cristian Tello run, but the youngster had been flagged offside. KAPLAN GALLEYSPROOFS2 3/17/2015 9:57 AM UEFA FINANCIAL FAIRPLAY REGULATIONS AND EUROPEAN UNION ANTITRUST LAW COMPLICATIONS INTRODUCTION European Football1 is not just a sport to the rest of the world. Each match is more than just a game. A match can and has represented old battles that never die completely. The Celtic–Rangers rivalry is more than a cross-town rivalry, but a representation of the unfinished political fight over the Protestant Reformation.2 The Barcelona–Real Madrid rivalry represents a long-running nationalist fight between Castilian and Catalonian Spaniards.3 Celtic’s long running rivalry with Rangers Football Club (FC) is just another part of the centuries-old rivalry between Northern Irish Catholics and Protestants.4 While one’s club is a representation of his or her nation and tribe, it is also a business, as shown by the globalization of the sport.5 And just like any business, occasionally there are financial issues. -
3. Radamel Falcao
3. Radamel Falcao 2013 has been an exceptional year for the Colombian and is one that has seen him grow and perform even better for both club and country. Falcao started the year at Spanish side Atletico Madrid, but has since moved to French big spenders Monaco. Here he has continued to thrive, although it could be argued that he is playing against weaker defences than before. At Atletico Madrid, Falcao was the star man and allowed the side to finish third in La Liga and thus qualify for the Champions League. Despite a slow start for Falcao due to injury, with the Colombian missing most of the opening month of 2013, the player put in a string of individually brilliant performances along the way for his team. For the vast majority of the time, Falcao played as an out and out striker, alongside or in front of Diego Costa and the Spanish side reaped the rewards due to his goals. Falcao reached his 200th career goal during this calendar year with his second of the game in a comfortable 5-0 victory against Granada. Falcao’s last goal for the side came in a 2-1 loss to Barcelona. The manner in which Falcao completed his career with Atletico is the moment, which he will most probably look back on as his fondest memory of 2013. The 27 year old turned provider in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and appeared to play deeper than usual rather than in his orthodox target man position. Ultimately, Atletico triumphed over bitter rivals Real Madrid in a closely fought 2-1 win.
