Ant Hill and Sunday Hill are situated approximately 61 and 55 kilometres respectively to the southeast of Nullagine within the East Pilbara Manganese Province. The total area of investigation covered both the Ant Hill and Sunday Hill mining lease areas (M46/238 and M46/237, respectively). However the development of the project will be a staged process, with a much smaller area of less than 50ha at Ant Hill (M46/238) targeted for extraction of ore in the first two years following project approval. -

According to GC- FID and GC-MS, the principal compound of the stem, immature flowers and the fruit oils was 1,8-cineole, representing 31.5%, 47.0% and 29.1%, respectively. -

Biodiversity Summary for NRM Regions Species List What is the summary for and where does it come from? This list has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. The list was produced using the AustralianAustralian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. For each family of plant and animal covered by ANHAT (Appendix 1), this document gives the number of species in the country and how many of them are found in the region. It also identifies species listed as Vulnerable, Critically Endangered, Endangered or Conservation Dependent under the EPBC Act. A biodiversity summary for this region is also available. This includes all mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs and fish, 137 families of vascular plants (over 15,000 species) and a range of invertebrate groups. The Mt Holland Project is situated 100 km south of Southern Cross in the Shire of Yilgarn. KRL commissioned Western Wildlife to carry out fauna surveys, including a targeted Malleefowl (Leipoa ocellata) survey, in the Development Envelope, and a targeted survey for Chuditch (Dasyurus Geoffroii) in the wider region. The aims of the vertebrate fauna survey were to: • Identify the fauna habitats present in the Development Envelope. • List the vertebrate fauna that were recorded in the Development Envelope and/or have the potential to occur in the study area. • Identify species of conservation significance, or habitats of particular importance for fauna, that potentially occur in the Development Envelope. • Comment on the potential impacts that a mining development may have on fauna, particularly on fauna of conservation significance. Methods The fauna surveys were undertaken in accordance with Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Statement of Environmental Principles, Factors and Objectives (EPA 2016a), Environmental Factor Guidelines – Terrestrial Fauna (EPA 2016b), Technical Guide – Terrestrial Fauna Surveys (EPA 2016c) and the Technical Guide – Terrestrial Vertebrate Fauna Surveys for Environmental Impact Assessment (EPA & DEC 2010). The field surveys were carried out between the following dates: • 10 – 15 Oct 2016: A Level 1 fauna survey with targeted Malleefowl and Chuditch surveys in Survey Area A (part of the Earl Grey Lithium Project Development Envelope). -

Department for Environment and Heritage Native Vegetation Information for NRM Planning Fact Sheet www.environment.sa.gov.au Native Vegetation The implementation of the Natural Resources Management Act 2004 and the formation of eight Natural Resources Management (NRM) Regions in South Australia has altered the way natural resources are managed in South Australia. The Act provides the framework to coordinate and integrate the activities of the wide range of groups involved in natural resource management across the State. Regional NRM plans contain targets that aim to improve and preserve natural resources, however the ability to develop and implement these plans is dependent upon accurate and comprehensive spatial information. It discusses how vegetation information is collected and mapped, how it can What is native vegetation? be accessed and how it can assist with NRM planning. Native vegetation is defined as a plant or plants of a species indigenous to South Australia. Vegetation mapping attempts to display vegetation types indigenous to South Australia, excluding vegetation grown for commercial forestry. Native vegetation includes relatively unmodified vegetation regrowth and scattered trees (high, medium and low density) with variability in the understorey condition. Individual plants are not mapped. How is vegetation described? A national framework for describing vegetation has been developed. This framework, called NVIS (National Vegetation Information System), provides a nationally consistent standard for describing and compiling data for native vegetation types in Australia. The NVIS standard has been adopted by South Australia as the basis for recording SA vegetation information. -

MVG 32 – OPEN MALLEE WOODLANDS AND SPARSE MALLEE SHRUBLANDS Triodia mallee, western NSW (Photo: B. Pellow) Overview Mallee Woodlands and shrublands are semi-arid systems dominated by eucalypt species that produce multiple stems from an underground rootstock known as a lignotuber. Some vegetation in non-arid regions also supports eucalypts with mallee growth forms, but these are not part of MVG 32 or MVG 14. Eucalypts are the most widespread tree component of this MVG however species of Callitris, Melaleuca, Acacia and Hakea may co-occur as trees at varying densities and may co-dominate mallee communities. An open tree layer (notionally < 10 % projective foliage cover, < 20% crown cover) distinguishes MVG 32 from MVG14 (Mallee Woodlands and Shrublands), which has a denser tree layer (notionally >10% foliage projective cover, >20% crown cover). However, this distinction is largely artificial, as tree cover varies spatially at fine scales and temporally with fire regimes, while the occurrence of tree, shrub and ground layer species shows little relationship to variations in eucalypt cover. Understorey composition is strongly influenced by rainfall, soil types and fire regime and can be dominated by hummock grasses (spinifex), chenopods or other woody shrubs. Some mallee woodlands are among the most fire prone of all plant communities in semi-arid and arid zones (Keith 2004).
