Wendt Archive and Resource Center Discover Buffalo’s stories…and yours. An archival “center of excellence” for protecting, conserving and making publicly accessible one of WNY’s most precious assets, the collection of more than 1.2 million historic documents, including the most comprehensive family archives in Western New York, with currently over 350,000 individual family records and growing by 3,500 families per year. This collection chronicles the stories of the entrepreneurs, architects, engineers, elected officials, philanthropists, religious leaders, entertainers and scientists who built and made Buffalo and Western New York what it is today. These people influenced the nation and the world, as well as the family heritage archives of many of us, the people who shaped the neighborhoods, schools and churches of our community. As a resource center for education, collaboration and local, regional and national community engagement, the Margaret L. Wendt Archive and Resource Center will assure that these precious and unique archives will have the proper public access, and will be leveraged to “tell the stories” of the history of Buffalo. This will allow the rich cultural heritage of Western New York to unfold for children and lifelong learners eager to interact with history in the unique setting of Forest Lawn. These stories don’t end at Forest Lawn. They’re just waiting to be shared. The genealogy consultants at the Margaret L. Wendt Archive and Resource Center will be your guides as you explore or chronicle your family’s story and write its next chapters.
