It was a few days before the opening recep- tion and awards ceremony for winners of the 2007 Regional Juried Art Exhibition at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts and they had the Hyndman Gal- lery practically to themselves. Canvases of various sizes, yet to be hung, leaned against the walls of the 2400 square-foot gallery. The juried exhibit at- tracted 291 submissions, to which juror T.L. Solien whittled his choices down to 59 accepted exhibitors. The trio of wood and acrylic fi gures, sitting on high, carved stools, spoke silently to the man who would single out his top choices for the award presenta- tion. Elmer, clad in painted coveralls and defying the convention of wearing shoes in such a classy gallery, did his creator proud: Steve Rebora claimed First Prize for his three-dimensional, cartoon-like char- Milo, Mabel and Elmer appeared deep in conversation.
