Costuming for Guys and Dolls Nease High School Drama Spring 2021

Each character has a general costume description and links to recommend costuming.

All costumes must be purchased no later than March 12, 2021

Please read item description carefully. Sizing varies. All items on the recommended costuming list are Amazon Prime, well reviewed, with free returns for easy sizing.

Principal Cast - Both you and alternate should have identical costumes. Please see Ms. Christina once you agree on costume choices.

Principal Understudies - You are not required to purchase costuming for an understudy role unless instructed by Mr. Hunsinger.

Female Ensemble - Tan character shoes are required unless you intend to be “Theatrically Male”. Purchase immediately! If you have never danced in heels before, do not choose higher than 2” characters.

Hot Box Girls - Black characters are also required. You may opt for ballrooms if you have performed in heels before. Please limit to 3” closed toe.

All cast - Please begin dancing in your performance shoes immediately. Bring them to every rehearsal! You will move and sound differently, it’s vital to practice moving silently!!

We would prefer to avoid duplicate costumes on stage, so please have more than one option in mind in case your selection has been chosen (or we will help choose something for you!)

Ensemble Gents - Suit, tie, and hat choices are first come, first served. See Ms. Christina

Ensemble Ladies - Dress or twin set & skirt combos are first come, first served. See Ms. Christina

All costuming will need to be tried on, photographed (full body front & back) and emailed to [email protected] for approval no later than March 18,2021

Do not wait until the last minute to purchase costumes! Expect delays in shipping due to Covid!

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

Sky Navy Blue suit, pinstripe ok. White shirt, dark tie, classic look. As close to Brooks Brothers as a gangster gets.

Sky Havana Light blue button down, roll sleeves. Coordinated tie, darker khakis (not bone shade like everyone else’s, true khaki). Straw fedora, light colored but not white. (See Ms. Christina)

Sarah (All band including General) White long sleeve blouse with bow, black pencil skirt, not shorter than knee length. Tan tights, black sensible flats (or characters).

Gents white long sleeve shirt, black tie, black pants (not joggers). Black socks & all black shoes (sneakers allowed - no white on them. Use electrical tape if needed.)

Sarah Havana Baby Pink, possibly gingham or eyelet dress, Audrey Hepburn style, full skirt. I’d consider a muted floral. NO POLKA DOTS. NO SLEEVELESS. Tan tights and characters.

Nathan Charcoal or Black, preferably pinstripe or plaid. I’d even consider houndstooth, Glen Plaid or Prince of Wales. Hot pink or lavender tie, matching socks, black shoes, maybe even brogues if you can find a pair. Bowler or fedora with a feather. Very flashy.

Plan to change ties & socks for different scenes.

Adelaide - platinum blonde Baby blue, turquoise, lavender. Pencil or mermaid style to the knee, sleeveless or cap sleeve. Solids or polka dots. NO FLORALS OR PLAIDS. Remember, you’re a show girl. Bright pastel tones. Tan tights & characters. I’d be good with matching Mary Janes or regular pumps if you really want to be obnoxious. Possible pillbox hat, possible wrist gloves. Possible reading glasses for lament scene.

Adelaide Club Solid or Asian print robe, brighter pastels (not baby pink) or red. Avoid black. It’s difficult to light well.

Adelaide Bride Mermaid silhouette, long sleeve, can be off the shoulder. Chapel veil, possibly with pillbox hat.

HBG - darker hair than Adelaide Same silhouette as Adelaide, pencil skirts with tight twin sets or form fitting dresses. If it’s not a dancing scene, you can opt for matching pumps or Mary Janes.

Brannigan White shirt, dark tie pulled out, dark fedora, trench coat, preferably dark (not tan). Dark pants, socks, shoes. Basically look like a cop.

Nicely, Benny, Rusty, Big Jule, Any acceptable color 2 or 3 piece suit combo with dark socks & Ensemble Gents shoes. Fedora or bowler. Named cast choose first, then first come, first served.

“Theatrically male” cast can consider shirt and pant options with tie & split soles. Must have hair pulled back into hat.

Ensemble Ladies Any dress or skirt & top or twin set combo with tan tights & characters. First come, first served. NO FLORALS OR PLAIDS

Havana Gents White shirt sleeve button down, white wife beater, bone colored (not khaki, bone is a lighter shade) pants, white socks & shoes. White fedora. If you don’t have all white shoes, use athletic tape. Havana Ladies Any beachy white dress with tan tights & characters. Must be white, not off white or beige. Wide, flowing skirts at least to the knee. First come, first served. You may want a tan leotard if you are doing lifts. Hair down, but away from face.

Bushel & a Peck Gingham button down (Navy for HBG, Rose for A), wife beater & denim skirt. Tan tights & characters. Hair in 2 low ponytails. Possible prop of baskets with flowers.

Take Back Your Mink HBG Black gown, A Red gown Pearls Mink (dark HBG, white A) Fascinator Gloves (black HBG, white A) Retro swimsuit (black HBG, red A) Hair up in low bun Possibly fishnets?

Thief All black. Turtleneck, beanie, pants. Props of stolen stuff (pocket watch, wallet, fake cash, and something funny - giant sandwich? NHS football Jersey? Think on this.

Boxer & trainer sweatshirt, shorts, chuck high tops. Remind me to ask Segal if he has gloves and pads. Otherwise we may need to get some cop - Runyonland nightstick, whistle, hat - See Ms Christina
