Karen Duncan Jewellery

Born and raised in Burray, Karen Duncan’s jewellery designs strongly reflect her local roots. She comes from a long line of craftspeople: five generations of the Duncan family designed and made wooden boats. In recognition of her artisan skills, honed over the last 30 years, Karen was the first Orkney Jeweller to be accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsmen. From bubbles on the sea shore to the distinctive concrete blocks of the Churchill Barriers, Karen draws on the historic and landscape features around her to create beautifully finished pieces. The and Blocks ranges interpret in diverse ways the strong geometry of the Churchill Barriers. Her Lamb Holm and Shield collections use motifs from the intricate metalwork in the famous on Lamb Holm, where a display of her work can be seen. A selection of her jewellery is available at the following retail outlets: The Longship, Kirkwall; Starlings, Kirkwall; Faireens, Kirkwall, Third Sister, Kirkwall, Sands Hotel, Burray; Orkney Fossil & Heritage Centre, Burray (Apr - Sept); Tomb of the Eagles, South Ronaldsay (Mar - Oct); Robertsons Coffeehoose & Bar, St Margaret Hope and Wild Heather Crafts, Hoy.
