Appendix-2012-48 Borders NHS Board ‘END OF YEAR’ REPORT Aim To update the Board on some of the achievements of NHS Borders staff over the past 12 months through an ‘End of Year’ Report. Background The ‘End of Year’ report is the first of its kind that celebrates and publicises some of the achievements of NHS Borders staff over the past 12 months. It pulls together just some key pieces of work and achievements by staff across all clinical boards during 2011-12and aligns these with the organisation’s four Corporate Objectives to show some of the ways we are delivering on Patient Safety; Health improvements and Inequalities; Performance and Delivery and Processes and Structures. Summary The report highlights some key achievements, in practical terms, that show the innovation and commitment of staff as they ensure our services are safe, effective, patient-centred and efficient at all times. AE_web_2007_08_fromJu07 NHS Scotland Accident and Emergency Waiting Times The Scottish Government target for Accident and Emergency departments is that 98 % of all attendances are seen within 4 hours. The figures presented here detail the performance of each site location and health board against the target. There are two types of Accident and Emergency departments; core and noncore sites. A core site is generally defined as a large hospital containing an Accident and Emergency department. A noncore site is generally a smaller hospital or minor injuries unit. Table 1: Attendances and waiting times, 200708 (Jul07 to Mar08) Presents figures for attendances and waiting times at accident and emergency departments; total attendances, attendances greater than 4 hours and attendances less than or equal to 4 hours (number and percentage of total). The information presented in the publication includes trends in the number of attendances and admissions, and performance against the four hour waiting time standard. Theme Health and Social Care. Frequency Monthly Timeframe of New data for the month two months prior to publication (e.g. March data and publication contains the data for January). timeliness Continuity of 1) A&E discharge times at hospitals in NHS Lothian were not data accurately recorded up to November 2017. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges was commissioned by Scottish Government to ascertain the causes for the data issues in NHS Lothian. The review findings were published 26 June 2018. 2) A small number of records reported in this publication as over 12 hour waits prior to March 2014 reflect errors in recording, and are not genuine long waits. Figure 1 shows the information provided to us from NHS boards with approximate counts for the number of over 12 hour waits which are in error in 2011/12 to 2013/14. It is important to note that based on 1.6million attendances per year, these erroneous records do not impact at all on the percentage compliance with the 4 hour standard either within a Board or at a Scotland level.
