Infielders back this season include seniors Doug McMichael (.174) and Dave Berry (.287) and junior Steve Haines (.150). Junior Denny Robinson (.290) is back behind the plate after earning third-team all-District honors last year. Pitching is a big question mark with only two starters back from a staff that put together a 3.95 earned run average. Senior Bob Pollard managed only a 1-4 record, but posted a fine 2.98 earned run average. Sophomore Les McCoy (2-2, 4.45) is the other returning starter. Senior Jeff Jacobs (1-0, Player Thumbnails 1.96) was the top man in the bullpen and may see action as a starter. Doug McMichael, senior Made an excellent comeback after missing the 1977 season 6-0, 158 with paralysis. In eight appearances, he fashioned a 1.96 second base earned run average and a 1-0 record. If he can overcome Bellbrook control problems of the past, he could move into the starting rotation. He worked hard during the past fall and winter to earn a starting berth.

He can play any position in the infield well, but had some problems last year at shortstop. His Dave Lochner, sophomore quick release and excellent range should be better used at 5-11,164 second base. One of the best bunters around, Doug is pitcher making a transition in his hitting which could keep him in the Beavercreek lineup. A good year could help overcome the loss of offensive punch in the lineup this season. His experience will be important as a steadying influence in the infield.

Bob threw the first no-hitter in Wright State history last year for his first career win over Indiana Central.
