BASEBALL MEDIA GUIDE 29 WRIGHT STADIUM

Wright State begins its third year in its new outstanding baseball facility this spring. When completed, Wright Stadium will be one of the finest amateur facilities in the Midwest. Field dimensions of 330 feet to both left and right field and 400 feet to center field with a 10 foot high fence make it com parable to all major league fields. Advertising signs in left and right field are attractive to all fans and spectators. The field's drainage system allows for play during inclement conditions while the full field sprinkler system helps maintain beautiful grass. Construction plans in 1995 include the addition of two heated dugouts, handicap ramps, restrooms, 500 premium seats, a four color message scoreboard and a AAA lighting system. In the near future, the stadium will boast 3000 bucket seats, a spacious pressbox to accommodate radio and television media, four corporate boxes, a covered batting tunnel, team locker and training rooms, weight training facilities and coaches offices. These fine amenities will allow the Raiders to attract outstanding Division I opponents from across the country to play at Wright State. Conference and NCAA Regional tournaments will add to the excitement of collegiate baseball in Dayton while many high school, American Legion and Connie Mack teams have requested the use of the facility for championship play. Major League Baseball scouts find the stadium and facilities great for evaluating talent. The 1994 summer season was the first to host the Dayton Aviators of the NCAA Great Lakes Collegiate League. The prestigious Gregg Nischwitz Invitational Tournament, currently in its 15th year, will also be played at the stadium for the third year during the fourth of July weekend. Wright Stadium will provide students and fans from everywhere the opportunity to see top level collegiate baseball in a new, beautiful state of the art baseball facility.

BASEBALL MEDIA GUIDE 31 1994 IN REVIEW

For seven years, head coach Ron Nischwitz and assistant coach Bo Bilinski's dream was to earn a bid to the NCAA regionals and to have a shot 1994 NCAA of reaching the city of Omaha, Nebraska-the annual site of the College World Series. Mideast Regional It was the tandem's 20th coaching season together at Wright State University All-Tournament Team and their dreams came true when they led the Mid-Continent Conference Champion Raiders over The United States Naval Academy, the Patriot League C Todd Cady, Arizona State Champs, 19-2 and 14-10 in the NCAA Play-In at Wright Stadium on Thursday, May 19, 1994. 18 Todd Helton, Tennesse The sweep of the Midshipmen enabled the Raiders to enter the regionals for 28 Steve Soper, Tennessee the first time since earning Division I status in the 1987-88 school year. Wright State drew a fifth seed out of six teams and faced off with the Wolfpack of North ss Tom Beam, Wright State Carolina State in the first round of the Mideast Regional in Knoxville, Tennessee 38 Kris Jarosz, Wright State on May 27. Raider ace Sean Sullins was the victim of eight runs on ten hits but OF Jacob Cruz, Arizona State earned the victory as junior third baseman Kris Jarosz led the WSU charge with two doubles, a homerun and five RBl's in the Raiders' 14-12 win . OF Scott Shores, Arizona State Entering the winners bracket, coach Nischwitz's club took the field with OF Mark Wells, North Carolina State traditional powerhouse Arizona State on May 28. An outstanding, complete game performance by Sun Devil starter Jason Bond silenced the DH Pat Clougherty, North Carolina State Raiders roar as they fell 7-4. Freshman right-hander Mike Innis was roughed up p Kaipo Spenser, Arizona State for seven runs, all earned, on nine hits while walking three and striking out four. P R.A. Dickey, Tennessee Destined to keep their hopes and dreams alive, the Raiders exploded for four MVP Todd Cady, Arizona State runs in the first inning in a rematch with the Wolfpack on May 29. Leading 6-4 after six and one-half innings, WSU felt in control of their third NCAA tourney game. Seeing their season nearing an end, N.C. State got hot and crossed the plate six times in the bottom of the seventh off starter Matt Clark and reliever Marc Galan to seal a 10-6 win. The loss ended the Raiders tournament run and the successful 1994 season . Senior Aaron Hampton posted his best numbers in his four seasons. The first-team All-Mid-Continent Conference outfielder hit .343 starting in all 57 contests. Freshmen Mike Innis and Matt Clark matured quickly into key members of the starting rotation . Innis tied the record of wins by a freshman with eight and was voted second team All-Mid-Continent Conference. Clark finished the season at 7-3 with a 4.31 in 87.7 innings pitched. Posting a 17-13 record after 30 games, the Raiders gained momentum for the second half of the season by scoring a record-setting 15 runs in the first inning to down nationally-ranked Ohio State in Columbus 17-15 on April 13. Conference sweeps of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Valparaiso were vital in achieving the conference crown as the Raiders finished the regular season at 36-19 and have averaged 38 wins since 1988. After capturing three Mid-Continent Conference championship titles in as many years, the Raiders will Doug Lowe finished second on the team with 11 home runs in compete for the first time in the Midwestern Collegiate 1994.
