HARRIS, HINES WIN CIAA FOOTBALL WEEKLY HONORS Football student-athletes Joseph Harris, Jr. (Fr./Jacksonville, FL) and Demonte Hines (So./Washington, DC) of Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) were honored by the CIAA on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Harris was chosen CIAA Linebacker of the Week and CIAA Rookie of the Week after amassing 17 tackles in a 26-15 win over Livingstone College on Oct. 6. He was four tackles away from tying the modern school single- game record of 21 set in 2006 by former All-American Kevin Jones, who is the Falcons’ CIAA STANDINGS defensive coordinator. Hines recorded seven tackles and intercepted a pass in the win Northern Division Conf. Ovr. over Livingstone. His interception deep in SAU territory thwarted a potential scoring Virginia Union 3-0 4-1 drive by Livingstone in the fi rst quarter. The CIAA weekly awards are the fi rst for both Virginia State 3-0 3-2 student-athletes.
