Senior Darryl Rankin earned linebacker of the week 9/22 VIRGINIA STATE* W, 28-21 honors after his dominant defensive performance against the Broncos. Shaw heads 9/29 at Lincoln PA* L, 53-55 into this matchup riding the wave of a three-game winning streak, including a 10/6 WINSTON-SALEM STATE* L, 7-63 48-20 victory over the Livingstone Blue Bears last weekend. Three of the Bears’ 10/13 at Fayetteville State* W, 35-18 student-athletes were recognized by the conference as players of the week at 10/20 at Shaw* 1:00 PM 10/27 ST. Carter named Steven Aycock as the 20th head football coach in Golden Bull history. Aycock embarks on his fourth season as the Golden Bulls’ head football coach. He led JCSU to their first postseason victory since 1969 with a victory in the 2011 Pioneer Bowl. Aycock coached the Golden Bulls to a 6-5 record in 2011; the first winning season at Johnson C. Smith University since 2006. Aycock has over 17 years of coaching experience as an assistant and offensive lineman coach. He has brought enthusiasm, passion, tenacity, and a thorough understanding of football from various aspects. “I am determined to make Johnson C. Smith football a powerhouse in the CIAA and in Division II football,” says Aycock. “I will utilize my opportunity to showcase my knowledge of the game through my coaching experiences and develop our student-athletes into better players and people.” As a part of the previous football coaching staff in 1996, Aycock helped the Golden Bulls orchestrate an impressive 7-3 record, the first time in 15 years that the program recorded a winning season. Aycock not only brings a new energy to Golden Bull football, but he symbolizes a new era at JCSU. His 17 sacks are a single-season franchise record. • Jones had at least one sack in 13 games this season, the most in franchise history. ATLANTA FALCONS • Earned a playoff berth for the second consecutive season. • QB MATT RYAN passed for 4,095 yards, his franchise-record seventh consecutive season with at least 4,000 passing yards. • WR JULIO JONES led the NFC with 1,444 receiving yards, his fifth career seasons with at least 1,000 yards. Jones joined RODDY WHITE (six) as the only players in franchise history with at least five 1,000-yard receiving seasons. • Jones has 585 career receptions and surpassed TERANCE MATHIS (573) for the second-most receptions in team history. White (808) is the only Falcon with more career receptions. • DE ADRIAN CLAYBORN recorded six sacks in Week 10, the most in a single game in franchise history. • DE TAKKARIST MC KINLEY had six sacks, tied for the second-most by a rookie in franchise history.
