Race Round-Up TOYOTA DEUTSCHLAND GMBH ÖFFENTLICHKEITSARBEIT & PRESSE Toyota Deutschland GmbH 50420 Köln Sunday 5 April 2009 Panasonic Toyota Racing Malaysian Grand Prix - Race Round-Up Jarno Trulli (Car 9, Chassis TF109-04) Grid: 2nd Race Classification: 4th (+46.173s) Pit Stop Laps: 17, 22, 28, 31 Timo Glock (Car 10, Chassis TF109-05) Grid: 3rd Race Classification: 3rd (+23.513s) Pit Stop Laps: 15, 22, 30 Panasonic Toyota Racing claimed its second consecutive podium finish during an incredible rain-affected Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit. Timo Glock scored the second podium finish of his career while Jarno Trulli, who had been fighting for the lead throughout, also took strong points as reward for a battling race in difficult conditions. An exciting start saw Jarno's fighting spirit as he reclaimed second place while Timo, on the outside at the first corner, dropped to eighth. Jarno pushed hard to keep first place within sight, while Timo was caught in a tight battle for the top six. Having started on the option tyre, both drivers continued with that compound at their first pit stops, with Jarno briefly leading. But then, on lap 20, the rain came and both were forced to pit on lap 22 with track conditions extremely difficult. Jarno was given wet tyres while Timo took intermediates. As the fastest man on track, Timo made up a host of positions as Jarno valiantly fought for the podium. Heavy rain and changing track conditions made strategy extremely difficult. Jarno made a further two trips to the pits first for intermediate then wet tyres while Timo switched to wets as the rain increased. Conditions were so bad the race was red flagged and after waiting to see if conditions improved, the race was declared and half points awarded. I feel a bit unlucky this weekend - I missed pole position by a tenth and it could have been an even better result for me. It was a good race and it was certainly eventful. I was pushing at the front and fighting with Rosberg for the lead. Actually I was struggling a bit with traction but it was very close. Then the rain came and the team chose to go with heavy wets, which was the more conventional strategy. I was the quickest car on the heavy wets but that was not enough because the tyres went after two laps. Timo was on the intermediates at that stage and that worked out better for him. I was a bit unlucky but strategy is always easier in hindsight and I don't want to blame anyone. It is a pity to just miss out on the podium but it is another very good result for the entire team." Timo Glock "It is fantastic to be back on the podium and I am really happy for the whole team. It was a really tricky race. I started third and was eighth at the end of the first lap. I struggled a bit behind the guys in front of me in dry conditions but I made the right call on the intermediate tyres; I said let's just take the risk and go for it. It was a long time before the rain really came down and I was not sure what everyone else was doing. They were struggling on the wets but I was really quick and I made up a lot of positions. When the rain came down I had to go to heavy wets because my tyres were destroyed. I was going well on them and it was unlucky that they declared the results based on the order at the penultimate lap because I could have had second. When the red flags came out I was second but I'm still happy with the result." Tadashi Yamashina - Team Principal "I am very proud of the team's efforts today because it is fantastic to get another podium and it shows how competitive we are this season. It was an extremely challenging race for the team but everyone did their best and was professional even in those difficult conditions. It is disappointing for the fans that the race could not continue as scheduled due to the weather but there was nothing that could be done. We have shown again today that we are really fighting at the front this season and I am obviously hoping we can continue this very good performance in the Chinese Grand Prix as well." .

His personal fastest lap time was 1:32.275 minutes. Tom Blomqvist in the BMW Driving Experience M4 DTM in tenth place also made it into the top ten. Maxime Martin (SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM), Timo Glock (DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM), Marco Wittmann (Red Bull BMW M4 DTM) and Bruno Spengler (BMW Bank M4 DTM) followed in positions 12, 14, 15 and 17.     ABT Sportsline 2021 – Press Release Week 33 70th victory for Team ABT Sportsline in the DTM Kelvin van der Linde has given Team ABT Sportsline its 70th victory in the DTM. Following his victories at Monza and Zolder, the championship leader also won Saturday’s race at the Nürburgring. After the first half of the season, the South African, who lives near Kempten, has a 33-point lead in the drivers’ championship. In the teams’ championship, ABT Sportsline is also at the top of the table after the first half of the 2021 DTM season. Saturday was a picture-perfect day for ABT Sportsline: Kelvin van der Linde secured pole position for the third time this season with a perfect qualifying lap and then celebrated a commanding victory. On the way, he only had to shake twice when late stoppers Timo Glock and Alex Albon put up a massive fight against the ABT driver. The South African stayed cool, grabbed the two opponents and, after crossing the finish line, ordered an ice cream from SAT.1 commentator Eddy Mielke, which was promptly served to him by colleague Andrea Kaiser at the podium ceremony. Walter Kolb accepted the trophy for the winning team. The 73-year-old pensioner from Isny had auctioned a seat at the pit stand of ABT Sportsline for the race at the Nürburgring by donating 6,000 Euros for the victims of the flood disaster in the region. The DTM was the first race event after the flood at the Nürburgring. Before the start of the race, children affected by the flood had visited the ABT Sportsline pit and were even allowed to hold the steering wheel of the eventual winning car in their hands before the race.

At the third race weekend of the 2021 season in Zolder, Belgium, he will drive the opening lap - as part of the Diversity Challenge of the Diversity Charter. The special feature: Schaeffler Paravan brand ambassador Janis McDavid was born without arms and legs. His childhood dream was to be able to drive a fast sports car around a race track himself one day. In Zolder, this dream is now coming true in front of a large audience. The 29-year-old is piloting a BMW M3 specially tailored to his needs with the second generation of the digital Space Drive "by-wire" driving and steering system. The author and motivational trainer thus sets himself another big task. With its ten turns, Zolder is considered an "old school" race track. Fast, challenging and not without its challenges: "A driving mistake quickly leads to a ride into the gravel bed - I have great respect for that," says McDavid. On Friday before the race, Timo Glock will therefore familiarize the "joystick racer" once again with the details of the circuit. McDavid: "I'm particularly proud to lead the top-class field at this particular venue." After all, the Belgian circuit calls itself the "Home of DTM." The debut race was held here in 1984. Another challenge: The 4-way joystick, which is completely integrated into the customized seat shell, has to sit firmly under Janisʼ armpit even at high speeds and with the corresponding centrifugal forces on the race track.

Both drivers got their first taste of the TF107, although Kamui’s car featured significant changes with a view to next season, including a revised rear end. Timo and Kamui left the pit garage at Jerez in unison just a minute after the green flag flew and completed installation laps. Both drivers soon got to work understanding their new machinery and making initial set-up changes, with no problems on either car. Kamui had a highly productive day and clocked a mammoth 114 laps - more than any other driver - as he got back into the Formula 1 groove with his first full test for the team since December 2006. Timo, using 2007 electronics without traction control or engine braking, soon struck up a strong working relationship with the team and he also steadily improved his lap times as he became more familiar with the TF107. Timo and Kamui continue tomorrow.
