There are extensive preparations going on in Italy, as our hosting federation – FIAM will do their best to organize a wonderful Championships. In order to make possible the participation of athlethes worldwide, the ExCom has decided to organize a World instead of a European Rimini, the venue of the the 11th WKC event. Therefore we wish to encourage all federations to attend World Championships for Cadets, Juniors and and contribute the success of the Championships. Open Letter to Heads of State Meeting at the United Nations 25 September 2020 Excellencies, In view of the upcoming special meeting of Heads of State on the margins of the 75th United Nations General Assembly on 29th September 2020, we are writing to express our deep concerns, as we are yet to see any meaningful pathway towards the necessary multilateral decisions to overcome the global economic crisis induced by the pandemic. The humanitarian and economic crisis triggered by the pandemic is threatening the well-being of billions of people and risks derailing the global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and respond to the expanding climate emergency. We urgently need systemic solutions to the broken global economic architecture. National level decisions, while important, are insufficient to ensure the required policy and fiscal space needed for a decolonial, feminist and just transition for people and planet. Inaba Sensei: It was one of Master Ueshiba's discerning suggestions that Aikido should not have competitive matches. One explanation is that he didn’t want to make a champion or "number one" person, and in addition he thought it more important that individuals reach their own highest level. But if we think about it deeply, this is probably not the only or main reason. The question is what kind of competitive matches you can have if you want to practice a Bujutsu (Ṋ⾡:martial arts) which is really useful in life’s battles. A long time ago in Japan, if you lost a match, this was shameful. So you wanted to avoid half-hearted matches, and wanted to die like a brave man in a fight rather than getting injured. It was either win or die. That leads to considering what kind of competitive matches are possible if you fight with a real sword. This would be the equivalent of having competitive matches with guns nowadays. I wonder how effective "sporting" martial arts matches under specific rules would be in a real battle? In a sporting championship match you fight within a specified time of period, in a predetermined place, under fixed rules. Even if you win the match, how much influence or impact will that have on the battles you encounter in your life? It’s difficult to say whether or not it's better to have competitive matches.
