A fear-fraught shut-in finds the courage to brave fate. A cold-blooded killer finds something worth dying for. An all-powerful prison warden discovers how small and weak he is. These four souls are condemned to be forever transformed within the crucible of Devil's Island. Michel (Ronald Colman), sent to Devil's Island for bank robbery, catches the attention of the warden (Dudley Digges) thanks to his Parisian sophistication. Eager for a houseboy appropriate to his status, the warden gives Michel the assignment. While Michel's bunkmate, the killer Jacques, gets hard labor, Michel seeks to serve his time softly as a servant. Thanks to the warden's wife (Ann Harding), Michel's labors soon prove as hard as Jacques. Ronald Colman's performance as Michel, along with his role in Bulldog Drummond the same year, solidly secured his transition from silent star to talkie A-lister. Ronald Colman; Ann Harding; Louis Wolheim; Dudley Digges 4/24/2018 888574662219 Devil to Pay, The DVD-5 1930 Lovable rogue Willie Hale (Ronald Colman) has frittered away another fortune in British East Africa, so he auctions off his belongings and returns to England. While Lord Leland (Frederick Kerr), Willie's father, fumes about Willie's latest failure, Willie buys a dog with his last pounds and rekindles a romance with saucy actress Mary Crayle (Myrna Loy). Finally returning to the home estate, Willie wins over his father yet again and makes the acquaintance of nouveau riche linoleum heiress Dorothy Hope (Loretta Young). Engaged to a Russian nobleman, Dorothy is besotted by Willie's freewheeling ways and soon gives up everything for a life of poverty with Willie. But there's one condition: Willie must never see Mary again. Much like its protagonist, played with customary wit and grace by Ronald Colman, this light and airy character romance has charms that are as winning now as when they were freshly minted. After confronting the future's incarnation of Kobra (voiced by Lance Henriksen), Virgil returns to Dakota City in the present, where he and Gear (voiced by Jason Marsden) tackle faux Bang Baby wannabe hero She-Bang, assist African hero Anansi and try to take down Static's idol, Green Lantern (also voiced by Lamarr). It all comes to a head when a cure is discovered for the Bang Babies - a cure that threatens Gear's and Static's abilities as well! This collection also includes the Justice League Unlimited two-part episode Once and Future Thing, which follows up on elements from Static Shock's time-bending season opener. 4/24/2018 888574657581 Woman Chases Man DVD-5 1937 It's like father, unlike son in this screwball comedy reteaming Miriam Hopkins and Joel McCrea. Ex-millionaire B.J. Nolan (Charles Winninger) has frittered away his fortune on one mad scheme after another while his millionaire son, Kenneth (McCrea), is quite tight with his fortune. Unless he's "tight" on alcohol; then he tries to buy everything in sight! Desperate to save his latest project - a low-income housing development - B.J. drafts lady architect Virginia Travis (Hopkins) to help him extract the funding he needs from his son. Kenneth has returned from Europe with a complication or two: a fiancée (Leona Maricle) and her "uncle" (Erik Rhodes), who are actually gold-digging grifters. While Virginia gets wise to what's up with Kenneth's fiancée, she realizes she has no choice but to "fight firewater with firewater." While Kenneth ping-pongs between pliable and intractable, Virginia realizes she has fallen for him. Following up on the feature-with-synchronized-music Don Juan and the part-talkie feature The Jazz Singer, Warner Bros. pushed its Vitaphone sound-on-disc process to the apex - an all-talkie feature. This brisk crime saga tells "a story that might have been torn out of last night's newspaper," an approach that would shortly become the studio's signature style. Small- town yokels Eddie (Cullen Landis) and Gene (Eugene Pallette) get suckered by a pair of bootleggers into buying a Manhattan barbershop that is really a speakeasy. While Eddie reconnects with his hometown honey-turned-chorus girl Kitty (Helene Costello), the boys get framed by a gangster who has the hots for Kitty.

  • Lupin III Ou La Samba Et La Bossa Nova Au Pays Du Soleil-Levant
