    EMPOWERING United Way of Marathon County OUR COMMUNITY. LIVE UNITED® 2016 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER. I would like to share just a few of the highlights of 2016: • In January and July, the Housing and Homelessness Coalition, with the help of teams of volunteers, took to the streets to do an 2016 BOARD overnight count of homeless people in our community. • In April, many local companies held “Baby Showers”, in response to the need for baby clothing and equipment for low-income families in our community. Together we collected over 7,000 items that were distributed through Rebecca’s Closet, a project of United Way OF DIRECTORS. Women in Action. • In April and May we piloted the Adopt-A-Classroom project. Eighteen companies and groups sponsored classrooms, while volunteers James McIntyre, President assembled literacy kits, delivered them to schools, and read a Duane Meyer, President Elect story to a kindergarten classroom.
