MIN BID AUCTION A BOBBY PARIS I WALKED AWAY CAPITOL 5929 VG++ 210 It’s difficult not to love this blue-eyed soul opus and even more difficult to understand why it sold zero copies back in ’67! B THE PASSIONS IF YOU SEE MY BABY ELVITRUE 1774 VG++ 600 Girl group perfection and a very strong VG++ with just a few light marks. Always a tough one. C DONI BURDICK BARI TRACK SOUND M- 600 IMPRESSION 6808 Never ever found in the states for the simple reason that 90% of the miniscule pressing run ended up in the UK. Reference Martin Koppel for the full story on that one. D J. D. BRYANT I WON’T BE COMING SHRINE 108 M- 8,100 BACK One of the legends of rare soul collecting. Interesting that this copy has a small tick against each label credit as if someone was saying ‘all in order – now get ready for the top 40!! Seriously scarce of course. E THE HYPERIONS WHY YOU WANNA TREAT CHATTAHOOCHEE M- 775 ME THE WAY YOU DO 669 One of those ‘one time, one place’ finds over 25 years ago when a small quantity turned up in Detroit of all places. Quickly assimilated into the scene, it has rarely been found in the US since then. F BOBBY KLINE SAY SOMETHING NICE TO MB 1001 VG+ 700 ME A midtempo gem which always fills a dancefloor. Hardly mint (hence the low start price) but check the soundbite to hear that it’s perfect for a deejay. G BEVERLY BROWN TAKE MY LOVE (SAVE IT BRIMCO 100 M- 350 FOR A LATER DAY) Super midtempo soul from Charles Brimmer’s label and our first copy in a long, long, time. New Orleans discs like this were rare before Hurricane Katrina – that event must have sunk any remaining vinyl well and truly. H NOLAN CHANCE JUST LIKE THE WEATHER CONSTELLATION VG++ 325 161 A classic that needs few words, HOWEVER this is the rare ‘star design’ rather than the plain blue label or white promo. I WADE FLEMONS JEANETTE RAMSEL 1001 M- 500 When I picked up my copy of this one for 60 pence in ’75 I couldn’t imagine that one day it would be worth more than ‘Nothing Can Compare To You’ or ‘Cool Off’ but it is. A monster floorfiller for a dozen years now. J TIPPI SAUNDERS WHEN YOU GONNA TELL TRIDENT 6705 VG++ 300 HER ABOUT ME Would’ve been massive at Wigan but we had to wait another ten years at least for this. One of two versions of the song and the stronger one in our book. K SIR GUY LET HOME CROSS YOUR D.P.G 102 M- 350 MIND Just got the right vibe for Northern/Modern/Funk collectors’ whoever likes it, it’s a great record! L C.J. AND SUNNY C. CAROLINE VAL-VO 111 M- 500 Very rare unknown Northern went for $3,800 the only time it was on offer on e bay. Apparently only 200 copies were ever made as promo’s (it’s the same track both sides) and have been lost to the world. SECOND PAGE FOCUS 1 GLORIA JONES GONE WITH THE WIND IS MY RECORD M- 8 LOVE SHACK 45-016 The original unreleased-at-the-time version and for my money the best, at least you can hear all the lyrics! 2 GLORIA EDWARDS MY LOVE IS GETTING RECORD SHACK M- 8 STRONGER 45-019 First time ever on a 45! The female version of the Tommy Ridgley monster (same backing track). 3 STEVE MANCHA HE STOLE A LOVE THAT WAS GROOVESVILLE M- 10 MINE GV2 Last few copies of this previously unissued Detroit gem, don’t miss it, last handful. 4 ALVIN CASH & THE SWEATIN’ (DO WHAT YOU MAR-V-LUS M- 10 REGISTERS WANT TO) 2004 Last few copies – previously unissued vocal/inst. Monster mover. 5 THE OHIO PLAYERS IT’S A CRYIN SHAME COMPASS 236 M- 15 The seventies funkateens turned in a couple of great 60’s dancers – here’s one. 6 EDWIN STARR GIRLS ARE GETTING RIC-TIC 118 M- 10 PRETTIER What a stormer – superb Northern as ever from Edwin. 7 THE INCREDIBLES I CAN’T GET OVER LOSING AUDIO ARTS M- 20 YOUR LOVE 2552 Truly superb – kind of great oldie needed to ring the changes. 8 THE DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO DYNAMICS 1011 M- 15 SUPERLATIVES Manic Detroit mover tears the dancefloor up. 9 THE JOHNNY OTIS HEY BOY! I WANT YA’ JAZZ WORLD 70 M- 25 SHOW Excellent 1978 dancer quite scarce with the labels the right way round. 10 JUDY CLAY IT AIN’T LONG ENOUGH STAX 26 M- 15 From the title you might think this was Andy Dyson’s missus, but no, it’s a brilliant uptempo Southern mover. NORTHERN RARITIES 11 PHIL LOWMAN ROCK ME TILL I WANT NO PALOS 6104 M- 200 MORE Rare on cream and brown original label. 12 THE FOUR-GENTS TOMORROW MAY NEVER ONCORE 85 VG++ 200 COME 13 TOMMY SMILEY I WON’T CRY MARQUEE 2062 M- 200 14 TATE LOVE SHOP CLOVERSTREE VG++ 125 T 102 15 ROOSEVELT PIZZA PIE MAN D-TOWN 573 M- 150 GRIER 16 ROMEY RAND I’M COMING IN D-TOWN 1054 M- 250 17 THE PUFFS I ONLY CRY ONCE A DAY DORE 757 D VG++ 100 NOW 18 THE ONCOMING IF YOU HAD MY LOVE DUO 7459 M- 100 TIMES 19 THE THREE CONTACT WARNER BROS M- 100 DEGREES 7198 Rare green issue. 20 THE SHADOWS MY LOVE HAS GONE GOLDEN M- 200 SOUND 2001 First label before U.S.A 21 CINDY LYNN AND MEET ME AT MIDNIGHT IN-SOUND 402 M- 150 THE IN-SOUNDS 22 ART FALLS I WANT YOU BABY NAUTILUS 125 VG++ 150 23 THE CHEQUES COOL MY DESIRE HIP 8014 WD M- 30 24 JOE CATO I’M SO GLAD CHESS 2026 D M- 50 Rare promo. 25 EARL VAN DYKE & “6 BY 6” SOUL 3502 M- 25 THE MOTOWN BRASS 26 FRAN OLIVER NEXT TIME YOU SEE ME SONAR 103 M- 200 27 MARVIN GAYE I’LL BE DOGGONE TAMLA 54112 VG++ 20 WD 28 FREDDIE GORMAN TAKE ME BACK RIC-TIC 102 WD M- 60 29 THE TURNER MY LOVE IS YOURS TO- CARNIVAL 1068 M- 100 BROTHERS NIGHT WD One of the rarest releases on this great label. 30 ELDRIDGE HOLMES LETS GO STEADY KANSU 100 M- 300 31 THE WINSTONS NEED A REPLACEMENT GUR TOM 8546 M- 200 Rare issue with great flipside (not on the promo). 32 BOBBY ANGELLE TOO MUCH FOR YOU MONEY 128 M- 150 Easily, on a par with the ‘shredded’ wheat song’ – if not better. 33 THERESA LINDSEY I’LL BET YOU GOLDEN WORLD M- 75 43 WD 34 TAMIKO JONES I’M SPELLBOUND GOLDEN WORLD M- 200 40 WD 35 THE SUNLINERS ALL ALONE GOLDEN WORLD M- 150 31 36 EDWARD I’M GONNA LOVE YOU MARY JANE 6707 M- 100 HAMILTON 37 THE VALA-QUONS WINDOW SHOPPING ON TANGERINE 951 M- 100 GIRL’S AVENUE Rarer issue copy. 38 MARY LOVE YOU TURNED MY BITTER MODERN 1006 M- 75 INTO SWEET 39 THE TABS TWO STUPID FEET WAND 130 M- 25 40 THE TAMS DEEP INSIDE ME ARLEN 717 M- 15 41 THE TAMS YOU’LL NEVER KNOW ARLEN 720 M- 20 42 THE TAMS DON’T EVER GO ARLEN 729 M- 20 43 THE TAMS WIRE HELP CAPITOL 3050 D M- 30 44 THE TANGEERS MAKE THE NIGHT A LITTLE SCEPTER 12282 M- 25 LONGER/REACH OUT FOR ME 45 FREDDIE TATE THE LA LA SONG SOUL STAFF 103 M- 30 46 THE IMPERIAL WHERE DID I GO? Hope that’s clear. Yet again, we think it’s an interesting selection and we thank you for your attention and ongoing support. Good luck! MIN. BID FEBRUARY RARE SOUL AUCTION A JOHNNY ROBINSON GONE BUT NOT OKEH 4-7307 VG++ 200 FORGOTTEN WD Robinson made three singles for the famous Okeh label, of which only this one could really be deemed to be ‘Northern’. He calls in Mike Terry on a Don Mancha/Freddie Gorman song, so – probably not recorded in Detroit, but with all the sentiment of that great soul city. Never booted, it would be a tremendous addition to a ‘thinking’ deejay set. Have listed as VG++, but really, only one small mark takes it away from mint. B SEPTEMBER JONES I’M COMING HOME KAPP 802 WD VG++ 200 Talk of the Motor City (item A) leads us to this Detroit gem, a Pied Piper Production leased out to New York’s Kapp label. Quite a bit is known of the recording details of this one, i.e., October 17th 1966 with many of the Funk Brothers on instrumentation and the Andantes on backing vocals but little has ever been found out about the artist herself.

BID FEBRUARY RARE SOUL AUCTION A JOHNNY GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN OKEH 4-7307 WD VG++ 255 ROBINSON Robinson made three singles for the famous Okeh label, of which only this one could really be deemed to be ‘Northern’. B SEPTEMBER JONES I’M COMING HOME KAPP 802 WD VG++ 400 Talk of the Motor City (item A) leads us to this Detroit gem, a Pied Piper Production leased out to New York’s Kapp label. Quite a bit is known of the recording details of this one, i.e., October 17th 1966 with many of the Funk Brothers on instrumentation and the Andantes on backing vocals but little has ever been found out about the artist herself.
