The rare and interesting fungus Squamanita odorata (Cool) Imbach, a parasite on Hebeloma species, is reported for the first time from Poland, briefly described and illustrated based on Polish specimens. Its taxonomy, ecology and distribution are discussed. All described on Cystoderma, was reported by Z. Domański species of the genus probably are biotrophs that from one locality in the Lasy Łochowskie forest parasitize and take over the basidiomata of other near Wyszków (valley of the Lower Bug River, agaricoid fungi, including Amanita Pers., Cysto- E Poland) in September 1973 (Domański 1997; derma Fayod, Galerina Earle, Hebeloma (Fr.) cf. Received 30 September 2017; accepted 27 February 2018; available online 1 August 2018 DOI: https://10.30880/jst.2018.10.02.005 Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB), the primary cause of morbidity and mortality globally is a great public health challenge especially in developing countries of Africa and Asia. Existing TB treatment involves multiple therapies and requires long duration leading to poor patient compliance. The local people of Kampung Peta, Endau Rompin claimed that local preparations of some plants are used in a TB symptoms treatment. Hence, there is need to validate the claim scientifically. Thus, the present study was designed to investigate the in vitro anti-mycobacterial properties and to screen the phytochemicals present in the extracts qualitatively. The medicinal plants were extracted using decoction and successive maceration. The disc diffusion assay was used to evaluate the anti-mycobacterial activity, and the extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening using standard chemical tests. The findings revealed that at 100 mg/ml concentration, the methanol extract of Nepenthes ampularia displayed largest inhibition zone (DIZ=18.67 ± 0.58), followed by ethyl acetate extract of N. ampularia (17.67 ± 1.15) and ethyl acetate extract of Musa gracilis (17.00 ± 1.00). The phytochemical investigation of these extracts showed the existence of tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, and steroids. -

Received 28 June 2011; accepted 5 August 2011, available online 24 August 2011 Abstract: The sanitary landfill plays an important role in the framework of solid waste disposal. A liner is a very important component in the landfill as a barrier to leachate migration into the environment. If the landfill system is not well managed it will contaminate the soil and ground water, thus presenting a risk to human and environmental health. The objective of this study is to investigate the natural soils properties at Endau-Rompin National Park (PETA), Johor that are suitable as a compacted soil liner. There are two locations of soil sampling i.e. Kampung Peta (KP) and Nature Education and Research Centre (NERC). The soil samples were taken to geotechnical and Environmental Engineering Laboratory UTHM for analysis of soil characteristics and its chemical compositions. The tests were sieve analysis, particle size analyzer, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, and X-Ray Fluorescence. The results revealed that the natural soil properties are capable of meeting the criterion and suitable to be used as a compacted soil liner for sanitary landfill. -

SMITH Professor Emeritus, University Herbarium University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Introduction The genus Hebeloma is a member of the family Cortinariaceae of the order Agaricales. In recent times it has emerged from relative taxonomic obscurity largely, apparently, because most of its species are thought to be mycorrhiza formers with our forest trees, and this phase of forest ecology is now much in the public eye. The genus, as recognized by SMITH, EVENSON & MITCHEL (1983) is essentially that of SINGER (1975) with some adjustments in the infrageneric categories recognized. It is also, the same, for the most part, as the concept proposed by the late L. R. HESLER in his unfinished manuscript on the North American species which SMITH is now engaged in completing. In the past there have been few treatments of the North American species which recognized more than a dozen species. MURRILL (1917) recognized 49 species but a number of these have been transferred to other genera. In the recent past, how- ever, European mycologists have showed renewed interest in the genus as is to be noted by the papers of ROMAGNESI (1965), BRUCHET (1970), and MOSER (1978). The species included here are some that have been observed for years by the author (1929—1983) in local localities, and the obser- vations on them have clarified their identity and allowed their probable relationships to be proposed. -

Darwiniana, nueva serie 1(1): 67-75. Although plantations have an artificial origin, they modify environmental conditions that can alter native fungi diversity. The effects of forest management practices on a plantation of willow (Salix) and poplar (Populus) over Agaricomycetes basidiomes biodiversity were studied for one year in an island located in Paraná Delta, Argentina. Dry weight and number of basidiomes were measured. We found 28 species belonging to Agaricomycetes: 26 species of Agaricales, one species of Polyporales and one species of Russulales. -

Six species, namely Conocybe brun- neoaurantiaca, C. pseudopubescens, C. radicans, C. solitaria, C. volvata and Pholiotina indica, are new to science. Bolbitius coprophilus, Descolea maculata, Galerella plicatella and Pholiotina utri- cystidiata are recorded for the first time from India. One species is tentatively recorded as Conocybe aff. velutipes, Conocybe sienophylla and C. zeylanica are rerecorded. Conocybe africana and C. bi- color are considered as synonyms of C. zeylanica. Zusammenfassung: 13 Arten der Bolbitiaceae aus den Gattungen Bolbitius, Conocybe, Descolea, Galerella und Pholiotina werden beschrieben, illustriert und diskutiert. This collection corresponds to the most frequent interpretation of the taxon in modern literature. Since the condition of the material is not sufficient to determine microscopic and molecular characters, the authors designate a well-docu- mented collection from the same area (central Bohemia) and corresponding in all aspects with the holotype as an epitype.
