As you are reading this newsletter, I will be returning from Melbourne with Ms Outram and Mr McCutcheon and 7 of our Year 6 students. We have been attending the Young Leaders Conference in Melbourne. The Young Leaders Conference brings together students from all over Victoria and the Southern NSW areas. The speakers included: Lorin Nicholson – a Children’s writer and guitar player. Lorin has just completed a 4000 kilometre bike ride across Australia, the first blind person to do so; Andrew Swallows – Captain of North Melbourne Football Club; Marita Cheng – Young Aus- tralian of the Year; and Joy Smithers – Founder of the ‘Shades for Aids’ HIV Education program and Board Member of ‘Cambodia for Hope’. Wonderful recognition – Dave has done a sterling job for us over the past 4 seasons producing pitches with pace and bounce and renowned as being fair to both batsmen and bowlers. Note the strong covering of grass remaining, and a couple of spare strips, despite us hosting an Auckland A match and a couple of social games during the season.
