Our next rehearsal …. Tuesday, February 8 –

Reviewing music for upcoming performances. See the East Bay show order below.

Make the necessary arrangements NOW to enable yourself to be part of both of these important concerts……… NOTE : “OPT-OUTS” must be communicated to Randy Loos ASAP!

Feb. 17 th East Bay High School Do you recall the kind of reception and enthusiastic audience we encountered in our previous school shows? Here’s yet another chance to spread the joy of Barbershopping to the youngsters!

A note from Lou Wurmnest… The performance on February 17 with a 7:00 PM curtain is being held in Gibsonton at the East Bay High School, 7710 Big Bend Road, Gibsonton, 33534 and the school's phone number is 813-671-5134.

Directions to East Bay High School -- whether traveling north or south on Route 75 . Take Exit 246 and turn left (west) on Big Bend Road. Go just past the school and turn right at the stop light. It's the first light for people coming from the south, and the second for those coming from the south.

Make a sharp right "hairpin" turn to go back along Big Bend Road on Old Big Bend Road. Go past a dozen or so temporary buildings (less that 0.2 miles) and turn left. There is a large sign pointing towards the auditorium parking -- don't know if the sign is lighted, but it should be.

If arriving using Route 41 : Turn east on Big Bend Road off Rte 41, and go to the stop light at the school. Turn left then an immediate right to continue east on Old Big Bend Road in front of the school. Go past a dozen or so temporary buildings (less that 0.2 miles) and turn left. There is a large sign pointing towards the auditorium parking -- don't know if the sign is lighted, but it should be.

We will have the chorus room for changing and warm ups. I will have someone posted at the auditorium doors to direct us to that room. There is a loading dock for relatively convenient riser unloading & loading to the left of the auditorium doors. This may be our best audience yet. They have to go some, however, to beat Plant High School!

EAST BAY SHOW ORDER : (Chorus call – 6:30PM in full TUX - no makeup) Almost Like Being in Love Witchcraft Most Unusual Day GUEST QUARTET: BARBIE SHOP Winter Wonderland ? After Today When I Lift Up My Head God Bless America

Feb. 26 th Church in Spring Hill This will be another great show with the dear folks of Spring Hill. We’ve been a part of their annual concert series on more than one occasion and have never been disappointed with their exuberant love of our music.

(Chorus call: 2PM in full Tux – no makeup)

VALENTINES NOTES

A quick note of thanks to the Heralds Angels, who took time to prepare the silk roses our quartets will be giving out this Valentines Day. They hand wrapped and tied ribbons to over 100 roses while we enjoyed ourselves on the risers last Tuesday. As always, your work is very much appreciated.

Quartets as they stand today: I have had to make many alterations and deviations to get us up to our maximum number of quartets. Please take care of yourselves, too many guys are sick and we need you out there singing! …in BASS BARITONE LEAD TENOR order- Songfellows Marty Port, Jim Colvin, Brad Grabill, Robert Mullin Flex Four John Johanson, Ralph Brown, Steve Matheson, Dan McFarlane Happenstance Bryan Hevel, Arne Helbig, Dan Deignan, Ray Scalise Powell of 2 Ed Burt, Tony Ramsey, Bob Powell, Russ Powell Fair Skies Bob Buhlmann, Charlie Barberisi, Ron Sadofsky, Lou Wurmnest Stand Up Guys Nick Schwob, Bob Weber, Don Messler, Roger McLaughlin Good Times 4 Jim Claflin, Chris Overstreet, Larry Gilhousen, Jeff Ulrich Note some of the quartet names are merely for designation and are of my own devise, should you desire a real quartet designation, let me know. Pick out your best driver, determine where you all will meet, come on Tuesday and sing together! Isn't it great to be a barbershopper? Bryan Kleske 105 S. Neptune Ave. Clearwater, FL 33765 727-442-6333

Our new contest ballad, “Miss You/Lost You Medley” …is going to be a spectacular chance to demonstrate the “Heralds Sound”. Randy has indicated how important it is to be totally familiar with the interpretation plan of this song as it is presented on your learning tracks. Please be listening to it frequently so the interp will become 2 nd nature for us.

CONGRATS TO “HERALD SQUARE” …our own district Sr’s champs recently competed at the Jax. mid-winter convention and did us proud! Way to go guys. Those that heard you said you have never sounded better!

cONGRATS TO DAVE DILLINGHAM He gets the weekly… “LONG-TIMER” award. He’s celebrating 18 years as a society member! We’re very glad that the last few of them have been with HoH.

And…keep your Fingers crossed. We may be having HOTSHOTS join us for Mariner This would be a delightful addition to our two performances in Spring Hill on February 26. More news on this possibility will be forthcoming

International housing forms will be forthcoming …due to our president’s illness of this past week (we really think he was just goofing off somewhere) , Salt Lake City housing forms were not available at rehearsal. These will be distributed soon.

This show flyer was recently smuggled to us at the Herald from somewhere in wilderness of Connecticut….

REMEMBER - Always pick your challenges carefully…!

Join us ASAP in charting the future course of the Heralds!

AND… ask yourself --- “Just who’s auditioning who?” Do you realize that it’s a process of the prospective director “measuring up” the Heralds just as much as it is the chorus getting a look at the director?

Working smart and hard at every rehearsal will play a big part in the outcome of this important search!

SOCIETY DUES… Every Herald must make sure his annual society dues are current! Failure to do so may jeopardize the chorus’ ability to participate on the International stage. Please see secretary Bill Wunderlin for further information about this if you have a question about your own membership standing.

SUNSHINE DISTRICT PIN… The new lapel pin for the District is now available for ordering online. Everyone will want one to wear to Salt Lake City this summer! Here's the link:

ALSO… you can buy one directly from JEFF ULRICH at any HoH rehearsal!

A health update on one of our basses:

Sorry to be missing so many rehearsals lately, but medical procedures dictate my actions. The morning of our St Pete show I had a lesion removed from my right arm. It turned out to be melanoma. Since then I had two surgeries and am currently undergoing chemotherapy. Needless to say, it is not a happy experience. Next Monday will be the last of the intravenous shots. Then for 48 weeks will self inject much smaller and weaker amounts three times weekly. Hopefully, will then be able to join the living again. …my warm regards to the gang. If all goes well, should be on the risers in about two weeks.

Ralph Mielcarek

Glad to hear you’ll soon be back with us, Ralph. We wish you all the best!

AND… just in case you hadn’t heard…

The Academy Selects New Director The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, aka "The Academy", is proud to announce the selection of Drew Kirkman as our new director. Drew was selected this week bringing to an end a two month search/audition process. We were amazed by all of the talent that graced our rehearsals over the past two months vying for the position of front man. We want to thank every man who auditioned for the position. You made us better by your presence and you each contributed in your own way to the future success of our group. We owe you all a huge debt of gratitude. As for Drew, we'll have his bio listed shortly on our web page for you all to peruse. Just visit www.theacademychorus.com in the next week or so. In conclusion, let me just say that we are incredibly excited to have this amazingly gifted and accomplished musician and director at our helm and we look forward to seeing where he takes us in the months and years to come. Tom Bronson, Music VP - The Academy
