Boston College 20-6 Entering the 2003-04 campaign, head coach J e ff Judkins, is back for a third year at the helm of the Cougar women’s program.

Receiving Votes: Arizona, Utah Coach Judkins took the women’s team to back-to-back NCAA appearances as well as to the title games of the MWC Championships, winning the title game in 2001-02. An all-state selection in basketball, football and baseball, Judkins played basketball for the University of Utah Utah from 1974-78. While playing for the Utes, he helped the team win one conference championship and two berths in the NCAATournament.

He was a second-team academic All-American and three-time first-team District VII academic selection. Judkins earned three first-team A l l - WAC honors and was a mem- ber of the 1977 United States World Games team that captured the gold medal. He played five years in the NBA for the Boston Celtics, Portland Trailblazers, Detro i t Pistons and the Utah Jazz. He was a second-round pick by the Celtics in 1978, the same year the Celtics selected Larry Bird with the sixth pick overall. After his NBAc a re e r, he returned to the U of U in 1989, and remained with the men’s p rogram for 10 years. Judkins, a Salt Lake City native, graduated from Utah in 1978 with a degree in health and physical education. He is a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame and the Crimson Club Hall of Fame. He and his wife Mary Kay, are the parents of five children: Jessica (23), Jordan (21), Jenna (19), Jaime (16), Jaxson (13).

U N LV U N LV has compiled a 19-6, 8-4 re c o rd to date and are in second place in the league standings at the beginning of the final week of the regular season conference race. The Rebels will play at Utah on Thursday night before traveling to Provo on Saturd a y. Toping the leader board in scoring is RanDee Henry with 19.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Two teammates join her in double figure scoring with Sheena Moore tallying 16.2 points and 3.8 rebounds. Junior Sherry McCracklin is contributing 14.1 points a team high 10.1 boards a game for UNLV. The team is shooting 45 percent from the field and 67 percent from the fre e t h row line. Behind the arc they shoot 29 percent and score 72.7 points per game, while holding opponents to 61 points a game.

Series Record: 15-6, favoring the Cougars Last Meeting: Both of these teams met in Las Vegas earlier this year in a game that was won by the Rebels, 77-64. UNLV has a 1-8 re c o rd when playing at the Marriott Center. The last time they won in Provo was back in 1975 where they picked up a 58-55 win. During the l league race last year, each team won on their home courts, but BYU defeated UNLV 66-64 in overtime in the MWC t o u r n a m e n t . SIBLINGS IN THE PRO Two of the players on this year’s roster have a brother playing in the NBA. Travois Hansen, Atlanta Hawks is older brother to twins Heather and Hollie Hansen. Travois is in his rookie season, and was a two-year starter at BYU. At the start of the season Briton Johnsen was on the Orlando Magic’s roster but has since been cut from the team. He is now playing on the NBDL (National Basketball Development League) . Johnsen was a four-year starter at the University of Utah. Freshman Melinda Johnsen is his younger sister. DOUBLES ABOUND On this year’s team there is one set of twins on the BYU roster in sisters Heather and Hollie Hansen. Senior Angie Gatten is also a twin to sister Angie Lewis who finished her eligibility last season with the Cougar pro g r a m .
