Csio – Athlètes Ontariens Pour To2015 : Volleyball De Plage, Athlétisme Et Basketball Féminin CSIO – ATHLÈTES ONTARIENS POUR TO2015 : VOLLEYBALL DE PLAGE, ATHLÉTISME ET BASKETBALL FÉMININ À découvrir : Équipe Canada et les athlètes de l’Ontario pour les Jeux Pan Am/Parapan Am 2015 Pour diffusion immédiate TORONTO (7 juillet 2015) – Cette semaine, Athlètes de l’Ontario pour 2015 attire l’attention sur des athlètes et entraîneurs ontariens qui représenteront le Canada aux Jeux Pan Am 2015 dans les disciplines suivantes : volleyball de plage, athlétisme et basketball féminin. VOLLEYBALL DE PLAGE : Volleyball Canada et le Comité olympique canadien ont annoncé la composition des équipes de volleyball de plage masculin et féminin pour les Jeux Toronto 2015. Les athlètes ontariens qui représenteront le Canada sont : • Josh Binstock, Richmond Hill • Melissa Humana-Paredes, Toronto • Sam Schachter, Richmond Hill Les coéquipiers masculins Josh Binstock et Sam Sachter, de même que Melissa Humana-Paredes et sa coéquipière Taylor Pischke de Winniped, au Manitoba, s’entraînent tous au centre à temps plein de Volleyball Canada situé dans le parc Downsview de Toronto. De concert avec les installations de calibre mondial de l’Institut canadien du sport Ontario, ce centre offre un lieu d’entraînement quotidien de tout premier ordre pour des athlètes et entraîneurs désignés. Melissa Humana-Paredes, sa partenaire Taylor Pirschke et Sam Schachter ont tous trois été désignés athlètes de l’Initiative de sport de haut niveau de l’Ontario (ISHNO). Ce programme conçu par l’ICSO offre des services de science et de médecine sportives à des athlètes susceptibles de connaître le succès sur la scène internationale dans des équipes nationales ciblées pour des sports d’hiver et d’été. Le soutien financier de l’ISHNO aide aussi les athlètes à participer à des camps d’entraînement et des événements internationaux. Au Centre de sport Pan Am de Toronto, de nombreux athlètes désignés pour les Jeux Pan Am 2015 s’entraînent dans l’espace de force et de conditionnement de l’ICSO. Ils y côtoient les membres de l’équipe nationale de volleyball de plage. Ryan MacDonald (entraîneur pour la force et le conditionnement), Nicole Springle (nutritionniste sportive en chef), Judy Goss (consultante pour la performance mentale) et d’autres spécialistes de diverses disciplines constituent pour eux une équipe de sport intégrée. Le personnel d’entraîneurs de l’équipe de plage comprend l’entraîneur chef et chef d’équipe Steve Anderson (Toronto) et l’entraîneuse adjointe Adriana Bento (Toronto). Steve est inscrit au programme De Coach à Leader, le fruit d’un partenariat entre l’ICSO et Performance Coaching Inc. Ce programme vise à rehausser les compétences d’entraîneurs de haut niveau travaillant en Ontario. Adriana reçoit de l’aide de l’ISHNO. L’ISHNO investit également dans la création de postes de coaching à temps plein et dans le développement professionnel. Le troisième entraîneur pour le volleyball de plage est Chris Galbraith (Kingston). Chris agit comme analyste de performance, une fonction qui reçoit une aide financière partielle de l’ISHNO. Ces athlètes ont accès à des services de science et de médecine sportives dispensés par des experts de l’ICSO tels que la spécialiste en biomécanique Carolyn Taylor. Sasha Gollish, qui participera à la course de 1 500 m chez les femmes, détient aussi le certificat du programme de coaching avancé offert par l’ICSO. Ce programme offre une formation et des connaissances supplémentaires à des entraîneurs de haut niveau qui visent le niveau de l’équipe nationale. Ce qui est remarquable dans le cas de Sasha, c’est qu’elle a complété le programme et obtenu son diplôme à titre de coach de ski alpin. Pour les Jeux Pan Am, le personnel d’entraîneurs ontariens en athlétisme comprend : l’entraîneur chef Peter Eriksson (Ottawa), les entraîneurs Glenroy Gilbert (Ottawa), Jeff Huntoon (Toronto), Anthony McCleary (Pickering), Richard Parkinson (Toronto), Dave Scott-Thomas (Guelph), Joel Skinner (Sarnia), Desai Williams (Mississauga), et la gérante d’équipe Jessica Scarlato (Richmond Hill). BASKETBALL FÉMININ : Basketball Canada et le Comité olympique canadien ont annoncé la formation de l’équipe de basketball féminin pour les Jeux Toronto 2015. Elle comprend sept athlètes de l’Ontario : • Natalie Achonwa, Guelph • Miranda Ayim, London • Miah-Marie Langlois, Windsor • Kia Nurse, Hamilton • Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe, Toronto • Tamara Tatham, Brampton • Shona Thorburn, Hamilton Shay Colley, de Brampton, et Saicha Grant-Allen, de Hamilton, ont été choisies comme suppléantes. Shay était une athlète de l’ISHNO pour 2014-2015. Depuis 2014-2015, Basketball Ontario et Basketball Canada reçoivent tous deux le soutien de l’ISHNO pour le basketball féminin. Ainsi, plusieurs de ces athlètes profitent des services de science et de médecine sportives offerts à l’ICSO par l’entraîneur Kosta Poulos, spécialiste de la force et du conditionnement, et par d’autres experts dans diverses disciplines.
