Adult trematodes from eight families as well as cercariae and metacercariae from ten families were studied. TRITC-conjugated phalloidin was used to stain the muscle fi bres. The serotonin- and FMR- Famide-immunoreactive (IR) nerve cells and fi bres were revealed to be near the muscle fi bres of the oral and ventral suckers of the trematodes and their larvae. The results indicate the important role of neurotransmitters, serotonin and neuropeptide FMRFamide in the regulation of muscle activity in the attachment organs of trematodes and can be considered in perspective for the development of new anthelmintic drugs, which can interrupt the function of the attachment organs of the parasites. Department of Veterinary, Shoushtar Branch, Islamic Azad University, Shoushtar, Iran Abstract This study was conducted to identify intestinal Trematod parasites. The helminthes fauna were collected from body cavity and intestines of 108 specimens of Brachirus orientalis which were obtained from Abadan port (waterfront) during the years 2009-2010. Most of the two species of Trematods were found in the intestine and body cavity of the examined fish. The Trematods found were Lepocreadioides zebrine and Allocreadium brachirusii in the intestine. The general prevalence of Lepocreadioides was 58 and 73% respectively in the intestine. Both of the parasite species found in this study have been reported for the first time from Iran. This study was conducted to determine the seasonal prevalence, and intensity of Allocreadium isoporum, which was founded as an endoparasite in Oxynoemacheilus tigris. A total of 136 host fishes was captured seasonally from Murat River near province of Bingol, Turkey, between from December 2012 to November 2013. During the study totally 209 parasites were recorded. The seasonal prevalence, and intensity, seasonal variation of sex and size of the host fish, the highest and lowest infection density, and larval and mature forms of A. isoporum ratio of the distribution were investigated. This study has been conducted to determine the infection parameters, of A. isoporum in O. tigris for the first time. Its systematic position has long been debated, partly because of the confusing reports about the structure of male terminal genitalia. Here we test the phylogenetic position of the genus Liliatrema using data on complete 18S rRNA and partial 28S rRNA gene sequences obtained for Liliatrema skrjabini. We also provide a detailed description of terminal genitalia in adult specimens of L. sobolevi and metacercariae of both Liliatrema species. The results of the 28S rDNA-based phylogenetic analysis indicate that Liliatrema falls within a well-supported clade, which also includes Apophallus and traditional opisthorchiids. This clade, in turn, is nested within a well-supported clade, containing Euryhelmis, Cryptocotyle and Scaphanocephalus. In the 18S+8S rDNA analysis, Liliatrema appears as a sister-taxon to the Cryptocotyle + Euryhelmis group. The Liliatrema + (Cryptocotyle + Euryhelmis) clade is a well-supported sister-group to the traditional opisthorchiids. -

The population biology of A. lobatum in the host Semotilus atromaculatus Mitchill was studied from May through December 1991, in a USA creek. Overall prevalence (64%) and mean intensity (4.4 ± 0.4) were greater than previously reported while abundance, reported for the first time, was 2.8 ± 0.3. Several trends in A. lobatum population biology as a function of S. atromaculatus length were identified. Mean intensity and abundance of A. lobatum increased with host size and significant differences in prevalence and A. lobatum lengths were found to correlate with host lengths. Box 56 Dunedin, New Zealand (Received 7 September 2004; revised 15 November 2004; accepted 15 November 2004) SUMMARY Precocious egg production, i.e. progenesis, has been documented for a number of species in scattered reports throughout the trematode literature. The last 2 extensive studies on the subject date from Buttner in the early 1950s (in French) and from Tang in the early 1980s (in Chinese). Overall, 43 species were then known for their ability to produce eggs at the metacercarial stage while still in the second intermediate host. Here, we update the list, and document the existence of progenesis in a total of 79 digenean trematode species, for which we provide information on the taxonomy of the hosts, the facultative or obligate character of progenesis, relevant references, as well as some other pertinent biological information. We then review the subject by asking 7 questions of fundamental evolutionary importance. These include: What favours progenetic development? What are the associated costs and benefits? How are progenetic eggs released from the host? While exposing the various opinions of previous authors, we attempt to give a synthetic overview and stress on the importance of the metacercarial cyst wall (whether it is present, and if so its thickness) in the evolution and the adoption of a progenetic life-cycle. Consequently, parasitol- ogists should be at the forefront of research in evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo) and integrative biology, and parasite systems should be model systems of choice for those research programs.
