The project will be implemented over an 8-year period from 2014 to 2022. The program is also proposed to be implemented using a multitranche financing facility (MFF) of Asian Development Bank (ADB). At present, KEIIP Tranche 1 and 2 projects are under implementation. ADB requires the consideration of environmental issues in all aspects of ADB’s operations, and the requirements for environmental assessment are described in ADB’s Safeguard Policy Statement (SPS), 2009. This states that ADB needs environmental assessment of all project loans, program loans, sector loans, sector development program loans, and loans involving financial intermediaries, and private sector loans. This initial environmental examination (IEE) report is a revised one of an already approved IEE (SD 31). Now package SD 31 has been divided into Lot 1 and Lot 2. Package SD 31 Lot 1 is exclusively for one of the sewerage and drainage (S&D) subprojects of Tranche 3 “Development of S&D network in Churial Extension Pumping Station catchment and Diamond Park catchment and construction of Churial Extension pumping station (annex) in Borough XVI (Part of Ward 124, 143 & 144)” with the omission of the component “laying of RCC sewer line along Bakrahat Road by Micro tunneling method”, originally proposed under SD 31. Package SD 31 Lot 2 is covering the omitted micro tunneling part of package SD 27 and omitted micro tunneling part (located at Bakrahat road) as mentioned above. The package SD 31 Lot 2 is thus exclusively for “Laying of RCC sewer line along Bakrahat road and DH road by micro tunneling and cut & cover method” Tranche 3 loan has been signed and construction work for SD31 is due to start shortly and is likely
