Realizing a trip to the Hill Country is incomplete without experiencing one of its beautiful rivers, especially the Guadalupe, the Hill Country Arts Foundation is launching a partnership with Kerrville Kayak & Canoe to offer kayak and paddle board rentals at The Point beginning May 30. Already the top tourist attraction in Kerr County with Stonehenge II, HCAF will offer visitors easy access to the Guadalupe for kayaking or paddle board- ing. Kayakers and paddle boarders may launch off the river bank near the Smith- Ritch Point Theatre, giving them river access between Indian Creek Road, Cade Loop and a section of Johnson Creek to Hwy. 39. North America. Over the years it has become known internationally as a Mecca for singer songwriters of varying musical styles … a place where those just beginning to develop their skills have the opportunity to play their music alongside those who are masters. Emerging songwriters and musicians are drawn to the festival’s many learning opportunities, such as the 38th Annual Songwriters School (Monday, May 27- Thursday, May 30), Harmonica Workshop ( Monday, June 3- Wednesday, June 5), the Young Artist Performance Incubator-YAPI (Saturday June 1), a Music Law Panel Discussion (Friday, May 25), Beginning Guitar (Monday, May 27-Tuesday, May 28), and a Barre Chord Workshop (Wednesday, May 28-Thursday, May 29). There are two new workshops being offered this year. There will be classes on “Altered Tunings/Multiple Capo Experimentation” (Monday, June 3- Wednesday, June 5). Then on Wednesday, May 29 there will be a free (to ticket buyers) “Harmonicas for Health” workshop which has been developed specifically for individuals with COPD or other chronic lung dis- eases. There’s something for everyone at this festival, from camping, campfire jam sessions, concerts and activities for kids, “Ballad Tree” song sharing sessions, Hill Country bike rides and canoe trips, Sunday Folk Song Services, Saturday Shabbat Services and much more. A complete festival schedule, infor- mation and tickets can be found at www.kerrvillefolkfestival.org or by call- ing the festival office at (830) 257-3600. Daily Ticket prices range from $25 to $50 depending on the particular day, although advance discounts are available which are good up until the first day of the festival. Campground access and parking lot fees are included in the ticket price. The Kerrville Folk Festival is owned and operated by the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the sup- port of emerging songwriters and folk music in all its forms. In addition to the Kerrville Folk Festival, the KFF Foundation produces the annual Kerrville Fall Music Festival (over Labor Day weekend), a Summer Music Camp for Teens, Music at the Mansion, and the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters.
