Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / The following report covers the activities implemented during the months of April, May, and June in the following areas: - General notes - Academic assistance to children - Cultural education - Social service - Medical and psychological assistance - Other 1. GENERAL NOTES One hundred forty two beneficiaries (adults and children) attended the Center during the period of April to June. The details are presented in the table below: April May June Number of children 104 110 104 Number of adults 32 32 30 Total number 136 142 134 The changes that took place were: 11 new children were admitted and enrolled in the relevant junior, middle and senior age groups and the meal program. 4 out of these enrolled 11 children are families from Talish who have moved to Vanadzor as a result of the April war. 6 children left the Orran program. During the reporting period 110 children were enrolled in the Orran program and were involved in the Orran meal, education, social, cultural and psychological programs. 5 children were embraced in individual sessions. 4th Q 2013 for web Page 1 Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / 7 children attending Orran have various disabilities thus individual work was carried out with them. During this quarter 32 elderly were involved in the Orran project. 2. Academic assistance to children 2.1. Classes and handcraft workshops 2.1.1 Classes Orran children have academic assistance provided by volunteers and teachers. The table below shows the number of children involved in the Orran classes in May. The children are taught PAINT Graphic design, MS word, Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS6 programs; the middle age group children are creating graphic images, thematic slides, pictures, diagrams. Two children participated in the republican competition called “Vozni” and one of them passed to the next round. This program is sponsored by Mentor Graphics. 12 children of Orran from the middle and senior age groups involved in the theatrical classes, are currently getting ready for a new performance. 18 children from the senior and middle age groups, who had participated in the environmental classes, are involved in the gardening project since May. Vardan Ayvazyan and Vahe Ghevondyan are working with the children involved in the gardening project. Twice a week the children go to the garden, water the trees and clean the weads. The Sewing workshop was supplied with colorful, numerous threads and gobelin fabric. The senior age group girls are involved in this workshop. Since June, stone carving workshop is being held at Orran led by sculptor Master Bogdan Hovhannisian. The best students of the woodcarving group are participating in this workshop. Hayk Hovivyan/ Head of Kanaka OJSC presented 16 tufa stones for carving . 2.2 Volunteers Volunteers help the children to do their homework assignments, as well as conduct individual and group sessions with the children, and support in organizing various events. The grant project submitted by US Peace Corps volunteer was approved and due to the grant Orran obtained 10 computers, 1 color printer and 3 basic printers, a cutter, a stapler, a binder and 2 other equipments. After receiving all the equipment and devices an inventory will be done and the completed list will be presented to the central office. 4th Q 2013 for web Page 4 Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / The aim of the computer center is not only to provide children with computer skills, but also to educate them with financial literacy. The Orran children will try to print booklets, calendars, business cards in their small center, and will be engaged in computer graphic design, and create computer games with the help of Vanadzor Technopark / VTC / volunteers. For this purpose an agreement has been reached with both the head of Technopark and the Director of Polytechnic University. The Orran children will practice their skills in the Vanadzor publishing house, for which an agreement has been reached with the Director. The students of UWC Dilijan international school who are volunteering every other week at Orran are on holidays from June 1 until September. The chart below preents the number of volunteers who attended Orran during this quarter. Events A series of events was organized at Orran where guests were invited. The children themselves were invited to educational and cultural events outside of Orran such as concerts, performances, local festivals, and cultural centers. The description of the events are presented below. On June 20 US Ambassador Richard Mills together with his wife visited Orran He learned of the activities of the center and conversed with the children. At the conclusion of his visit, Ambassador. Mills planted a fir tree in the Orran garden. Mrs. Mills presented books for the Orran library. The Ambassador met Lilit Nalbandyan/ an Orran graduate who was selected as a participant of US Flex project and will leave for the US for one year. 4th Q 2013 for web Page 6 Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / On June 20 Samvel Avetisyan, a student of the Orran journalistic group conducted a short interview with the US Ambassador: The interview was placed on the Embassy webpage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roFzVNsHrlo&feature=share The US Ambassador’s visit to Vanadzor was placed also on Hayeli.am webpage. http://hayeli.am/article/905358#.V2lkAi9Tppo.facebook On June 16, an exhibition of handicrafts of around 40 talented women of the Lori region was organized by the Vanadzor Women’s Initiative Group. The handicrafts of Orran children were also presented at the exhibition. The exhibition was opened with an address of Bishop Sepuh Chuljyan. Lori Governor, Deputy Mayor, various guests and media representatives were present during the event. On the same day, all the children participated in a concert called Wonder Child. 4th Q 2013 for web Page 8 Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / On June 15, the students of the senior age group of Orran together with the nurse and the teachers were hosted by Vanadzor “Lori Med” Medical Center where WIRED International Medical project http://www.wiredinternational.org/ Manager Gary Selnoun and Project Armenia Coordinator Sepuh Baghdoyan made presenations. On June 13, 5 children of Orran journalism class visited the workshop of Ara Ghevondyan/ noted artist of Vanadzor who is also the master of the woodcarving and arts workshops at Orran Center. The children familiarized themselves with the artist’s masterpieces of various time periods, got to know the artist’s style, work technique, and asked him questions. Araksya Miskaryan from the Journalim workshop interviewed the master, talked about the painting style of the master, his favorite books and other interesting topics. 4th Q 2013 for web Page 9 Vanadzor Orran- 2nd Quarter Report /April to June, 2016 / On June 10 the students of Orran senior group participated in the exhibition titled “Against Violence” organized in the Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts.
