LORD OUGHTON S PREFACE TO THE ANNALS 1 88 0 T the dinner on the 1 oth February 1 91 3 the Secretaries reported h that the Arc ives of the Club , so far as related to the period prior to 1 8 di 77 , had sappeared, and they were requested to endeavour to trace and recover them , with a view to the preparation of some suitable record to commemorate the Centen ary of the Club . The Secretaries have now to report that , after prolonged inquiries , the documents in question have been recovered . They consist of two bound volumes of miscellaneous papers extend 1 8 1 2 1 8 i i ing over the years from to 79 , a volume conta n ng the accounts 1 82 2 1 8 2 m n of the Club from to 3 , and nine volu es in which the atte dances n e 6th 1 8 1 6 1 6 1 8 at din er are record d from the March to the th April 77, besides other documents of less consequence . The Secretaries were 1 8 already in possession of the Dinner Books from 77 to the present date , and of the Club accounts from 1 842 . The Secretaries think that they will be carrying out the wishes of the Club if they present a brief history of the Club from its foundation l ffi and a complete ist of the Members , with notes of the principal O ces, H . onours , and Distinctions held by them 1 880 In the year a volume was compiled for the use of Members , ’ Grilli on s Club rom i ts Ori in i n 1 81 2 to i ts F i eih Anni versar entitled f g ifl y, Annals o . S by P G E The cover of the book bears the horter title, f ’ l on lu i Gri li s C b . Th s record was the work of Sir Philip de Malpas Grey t Of 1 866 Egerton , Bar , who was one the Secretaries of the Club from till his death in 1 881 .
