2) Union Government launched Ganga Gram Yojana in Uttar Pradesh. The Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti launched Ganga Gram Yojana at Village Puth in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. Under the scheme, 1600 villages of UP situated along the banks of river Ganga will be developed.

3) Kunal Shah appointed as Chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India. Mobile Internet body IAMAI on Tuesday appointed FreeCharge co-founder and CEO Kunal Shah as its Chairman. 4) Union Cabinet approved Stand Up India Scheme. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave its nod for the Stand Up India scheme that is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women and scheduled castes and tribes.

5) Achyuta Samanta elected as President of 105th Indian Science Congress. Dr Samanta, known as an educationist, has set KIIT University which has around 25,000 students and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) where around 25,000 indigenous students are being given free residential education from kindergarten to post graduation.

6) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expired on January 7th 2016. On 24 December 2015, Sayeed was admitted to the AIIMS hospital in New . He suffered from neck pain and fever. His condition gradually deteriorated, and he was put on ventilator support. He died on 7 January 2016 due to multi-organ failure

10) Indo-French military exercise Shakti-2016 started on Jan 8. Indian and French troops began their eight-day counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency joint exercise in Rajasthan. This year's edition is the third in a series of bilateral exercises executed under 'Shakti' banner. The French contingent comprising 56 personnel of 35th Infantry Regiment of 7th Armoured Brigade, which had taken part in the Afghan war, had arrived in Jodhpur to take part in 'Shakti 2016'

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan was named The Banker magazine's Global and Asia-Pacific Central Bank Governor of the Year 2015, for stabilising the Indian rupee, initiating key reforms to attract much needed foreign capital in the country and reining in a runaway price appreciation.

12) Union Cabinet approved Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to boost the farming sector. The Union Cabinet approved the launch of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme) in which the premium rates to be paid by the farmers have been brought down substantially so as to enable more farmers avail insurance cover against crop loss on account of natural calamities.

15) PM Narendra Modi launched Start-up India initiative. On January 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 19-point action plan for start-up enterprises in India. 18) PSLV-C31 successfully launched IRNSS-1E satellite. ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C31, successfully launched the 1425 kg IRNSS-1E, the fifth satellite in the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) from Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. This is the thirty second consecutively successful mission of PSLV and the eleventh in its 'XL' configuration.

19) International Solar Alliance headquartered in India with United Nations as Strategic Partner. India’s prime minister has launched an international solar alliance of over 120 countries with the French president, François Hollande, at the Paris COP21 climate summit.

20) Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes Amendment Act, 2015 came into force. To make laws tougher to tackle atrocities against the most vulnerable sections of the population, the Centre on Monday announced that The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015, would come into force with effect from January 26, 2016.

31) International Fleet Review 2016 concluded in Visakhapatnam. India’s Eastern Naval Command hosted the navies of approximately 52 countries for five days last week for the International Fleet Review. More than 100 naval vessels participated in the review, which involves a ceremonial inspection to showcase naval readiness among other activities. Warships and sailors from the Indian, U.S., Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian, and South Korean navies, among others, participated.

LAMITYE 2016, the 7th joint military training exercise between the Indian Army and the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) began on 15 February 2016. Pakistan parliament today became the first in the world to completely run on solar power, a venture supported by China with USD 55 million funding. 49) Manoj Kumar to be conferred Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2015. The 47th Dada Saheb Phalke lifetime contribution to Indian cinema award for the year 2015 will be awarded to Bollywood veteran actor Manoj Kumar. Dada Saheb Phalke is the most prestigious award which is known to the biggest award that is presented by the Union Government for excellent work in the cinema field.

50) Indian-origin Ashutosh Tiwari-led Utah Engineers discovered 2D Semiconducting Material made of Tin Monoxide.

Engineers belonging to the University of Utah, the USA, discovered a new kind of 2D semiconducting material for electronics that is made up of the elements tin and oxygen or tin monoxide (SnO). The discovery was made by a team of engineers led by Indian-Orgin Ashutosh Tiwari and published online on 15 February 2016 in the journal Advanced Electronic Materials.

52) Prime Minister launched Setu Bharatam project to make National Highways free of Railway crossings. The ‘Setu Bharatam’ project aims to make all national highways free from railway level crossing by 2019 to ensure road safety. Under the project, 208 rail- over bridges and rail-under bridges will be built at the cost of Rs. 20,800 crore, Road Minister Nitin Gadkari said. Also, 1,500 decade-old bridges will be reconstructed and revamped for Rs. 30,000 crore.

53) Renowned Dogri poetess Padma Sachdev awarded Krutitava Smagra Samman. Renowned Dogri poetess and writer Padma Sachdev was 6 March 2016 was awarded Krutitava Smagra Samman for the year 2015. The award was given by Bharatiya's Bhasha Parishad in Kolkata for her outstanding contribution in literature and great service to Dogri Language. She was presented with the award by the Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. The Award carries an amount of one lakh rupees, a shawl and citation.

54) Union Government launched online marketing platform Mahila e-Haat. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi on 7 March 2016 launched Mahila e-Haat portal in New Delhi. The Mahila e-Haat portal, http://mahilaehaat-rmk.gov.in, is an online marketing platform. It will provide access to markets to thousands of women who make products and are spread all over the country.

55) Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched “Clean My Coach” service. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on 11 March 2016 launched an online Clean My Coach service. The service allows travelers to get their compartments cleaned by sending an SMS or by using an app or a designated website.

59) India and Indonesia joint training exercise Garuda Shakti IV began at Magelang. The fourth edition of the joint exercise Garuda Shakti between India and Indonesia commenced on 10 March 2016 at Magelang, Indonesia. The joint training exercise will see an Indian Army platoon strength contingent carrying out cross training with a platoon from the Airborne battalion of the Indonesian Army. The selected Indian unit has had varied operational experience in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorist operations in the Northern, Western and Eastern theatres.

60) Pope Francis announced Mother Teresa to be granted Sainthood. Pope Francis on 15 March 2016 announced that Mother Teresa will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church at a ceremony on 4 September 2016.

61) Palestinian Hanan Al Hroub won 2016 Global Teacher Prize. A Palestinian primary school teacher from a refugee camp, Hanan Al Hroub, on 13 March 2016 won one million dollar Global Teacher Prize.

62) India successfully test-fired Agni-I ballistic missile. India on 14 March 2016 successfully test-fired indigenously built nuclear-capable intermediate range Agni-I ballistic missile. It was launched from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island) on the Odisha coast.

70) Justice H L Dattu appointed as member of International Coordinating Committee Bureau. Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and former Chief Justice of India HL Dattu on 22 March 2016 was appointed a member of the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) Bureau in Geneva.

77) India, US signed MoU for setting up LIGO observatory in India. India and the United States on 31 March 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on setting up Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) in India.

82) Mehbooba Mufti took oath as first woman Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti was on 4 April 2016 sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) at Raj Bhawan in Jammu. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by J&K Governor NN Vohra.

83) PM Modi conferred highest civilian award of Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on 3 April 2016 conferred the King Abdulaziz Sash honour by Saudi Arabia. It is the highest civilian honour of the country.
