The issue for consideration is the remedial action for contamination of water bodies and ground water, specially Ramgarh Lake, Ami River, Rapti River and Rohani River in and around District Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. In the course of proceedings certain associated issues have also been taken up for consideration including industrial pollution, encroachments, enforcement of Solid Waste and Bio Medical Waste Rules to which further reference will be made in the later part of this order. 2. The matter has been pending for the last more than six years and was exhaustively reviewed vide order dated 23.08.2018. The Tribunal noted the allegation that Ramgarh Lake and the Ami, Rapti and 1 Rohani Rivers in and around District Gorakhpur were severely polluted on account of discharge of untreated sewage and industrial effluents.
