Abstract 1 In 1997, we ran two Malaise insect traps in each of four stands of wet forest in Costa Rica (two old-growth and two 20-year-old stands) and four stands of moist forest in Panama (old-growth, 20, 40 and 120-year-old stands). 2 Wet forest traps caught 2.32 times as many ichneumonoids as moist forest traps. The average catch per old-growth trap was 1.89 times greater than the average catch per second-growth trap. 3 Parasitoids of lepidopteran larvae were caught in higher proportions in the wet forest, while pupal parasitoids were relatively more active in the moist forest. 4 We hypothesize that moisture availability is of key importance in determining parasitoid activity, community composition and trophic interactions. Kaboudvand 1Planning Research Institute, Agriculture Economy and Rural Development, Ministry of Jihad 2Rural Development Department, Tehran, Iran Abstract: The concept of sustainability has been considered as a framework for understanding the development process and environment resource management as well as delicate a balance between economy, environment and health sociality around the world in the recent decades. This research tries to determine the level of sustainability of Karaj rural development in order to identify and investigate the possibilities of Karaj County. For this purpose, 30 indicators of social, economic and environmental and structural-infrastructural are applied, using factor analysis and cluster analysis techniques for grading and evaluating the sustainability of the 82 villages were used in Karaj County. Thus, the 30 variables were reduced to 4 factors. According to the result of the principal component analysis with rotation, 65.32% of total variance among the 30 variables was explained by these 4 factors. Results indicate undesirable present condition in the studied region which Farokh Abad and Ghezel Hesar villages are sustainable, while Morad Abad and Ahmad Abad villages are unsustainable comparison with other settlements. Finally, the strategy policies are presented in different dimension in order to enhance and improve of the sustainability of Karaj County. -

Both the genus and species are newly recorded from Iran. All the specimens were collected from Gilan and Mazandaran provinces, using Malaise traps. The diagnostic characters of P. accola and its geographical distribution is presented. Identification Key to the Subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera)
Identification key to the subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) Gavin Broad Dept. of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK Notes on the key, February 2011 This key to ichneumonid subfamilies should be regarded as a test version and feedback will be much appreciated (emails to [email protected]). Many of the illustrations are provisional and more characters need to be illustrated, which is a work in progress. Many of the scanning electron micrographs were taken by Sondra Ward for Ian Gauld’s series of volumes on the Ichneumonidae of Costa Rica. Many of the line drawings are by Mike Fitton. I am grateful to Pelle Magnusson for the photographs of Brachycyrtus ornatus and for his suggestion as to where to include this subfamily in the key. Other illustrations are my own work. Morphological terminology mostly follows Fitton et al. (1988). A comprehensively illustrated list of morphological terms employed here is in development. In lateral views, the anterior (head) end of the wasp is to the left and in dorsal or ventral images, the anterior (head) end is uppermost. There are a few exceptions (indicated in figure legends) and these will rectified soon. Identifying ichneumonids Identifying ichneumonids can be a daunting process, with about 2,400 species in Britain and Ireland. These are currently classified into 32 subfamilies (there are a few more extralimitally). Rather few of these subfamilies are reconisable on the basis of simple morphological character states, rather, they tend to be reconisable on combinations of characters that occur convergently and in different permutations across various groups of ichneumonids. -

A in Management, [email protected] Abstract: The risks of accidents and disasters such as earthquakes, floods and the vulnerability of people to structural and non-structural damages are very high in many regions of Iran, including the city of Rudsar. This article has studied the important issue of operational preparedness of the families in Rudsar in the face of possible accidents, disasters and crises. The aim of the study is to investigate the factors influencing the participation of citizens in possible accidents in Rudsar and to suggest ways for increasing their participation. The study is an applied one and has used the existing literature and description as its method of data collection. The research sample included the household families in the rural and urban areas of Rudsar during the winter of 2015. Sampling was done by clustering method and the questionnaires were randomly distributed among the household women who were accessed through the health centers in the region. The data was analyzed in SPSS 18. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between training and household preparedness which indicates the direct relationship between training and preparedness among the families of Rudsar in the face of accidents and disasters. Therefore, to increase inclusive participation of everyone for controlling the accidents and disasters it is necessary to conduct training for all age groups especially for the women of the families – who are possible to reach at through the health centers – so that the latter group could transfer the training to all the other family members. -

However, the utility of this strategy has been questioned. We tested whether a phylogenetic diversity (PD) analysis of CO1 DNA barcodes could act as a proxy for standard methods of determining sampling efficiency within and between sites, namely that an accumulation curve of barcode diversity would be similar to curves generated using morphology or nuclear genetic markers. Using taxa at the forefront of the taxonomic impediment — parasitoid wasps (Ichneumonidae, Braconidae, Cynipidae and Diapriidae), contrasted with a taxon expected to be of low diversity (Formicidae) from an area where total diversity is expected to be low (Churchill, Manitoba), we found that barcode accumu- lation curves based on PD were significantly different in both slope and scale from curves generated using names based on morphological data, while curves generated using nuclear genetic data were only different in scale. We conclude that these differences clearly identify the taxonomic impediment within the strictly morphological alpha-taxonomy of these hyperdiverse insects. The absence of an asymptote within the barcode PD trend of parasitoid wasps reflects the as yet incomplete sampling of the site (and more accurately its total diversity), while the morphological analysis asymptote represents a collision with the taxonomic impediment rather than complete sampling. -

Despite the extensive beekeeping practices in Karaj state, Iran relevant information related to socio- economic profiles of beekeeping and factors affecting the adoption of improved beekeeping technologies Sayed Mehdi Esmaeilzade were lacking. To understand these conditions, 176 beekeepers from eight regions were interviewed using The Professional Instructor of exhaustive questionnaires. The objectives of this study were to identify determinants of improved box Culturing Honey Bee, Number 2, Zibadasht, Karaj, Iran. hive adoption by the beekeepers; and to analyze financial benefits from adopting improved box hive technology. It was found that credit, knowledge, education level of household head, perception and visits to demonstrations positively and significantly influenced adoption of box hive. The average annual productivities of colonies were 8.64±5.54 kg and 3.89±2.52 kg honey/colony/annum for modern and traditional hives, respectively. The average annual household earnings from beekeeping was relatively high ($68,845.6), and contributes to an average of 26.64±28.95% of the total annual income of beekeepers which shows that beekeeping plays a vital role in increasing and diversifying the incomes of rural communities. Chromosome Counts of Some Angiosperm Species from Iran

The gullet worm, Gongylonema pulchrum Molin, 1857, is a thread-like nematode that occurs in a large variety of animals worldwide. The present study was conducted to investigate the prevalence and histophatology of G. pulchrum in cattle slaughtered in Rudsar slaughterhouse, Gilan Province, northern Iran. During four seasons of 2011, a total of 680 esophagi of native and hybrid breed cattle at Rudsar abattoir were examined parasitologically and pathologically for gongylonemiasis. Cattle were considered in three age groups including less than 2, 2-5 and over 5 years old. Results of our study showed that the prevalence of G. pulchrum in cattle was 16.2%. Prevalence was significantly highest in native cattle and in summer (P<0.05). The highest prevalence was in cattle over 5 years old and males were more infected than females. The age and sex of the cattle had not significant effects on the prevalence of the parasite (P>0.05).
